That's nice to know 'cause I have a Peugeot 'on deck' for a rebuild that has that rear rack...and I'd hoped to keep the rack and find it useful.

I don’t often drive by the dump, I swear, but did and found this bike lying on a pile of debris. I asked the attendant about it and he said to take it if I wanted it. So I did.

I've used the racks already and they fit new saddlebags great, it rides very nice to, I think this is the first noneroad bike i've used that had a very smooth ride other then the rear tire hopping, I will check the size though, I noticed I tryed a 26 1 3/8 tire and it was just a tad to big, For a folder them tires are big. gotta check that size before I buy new ones, if they are the hard ones to find i'll cut a tire and glue it inside over the spot lol that will be good for a few miles.. lol

Nice Shih Tzu Sixty Fiver :) I said no judgement on the beer! I had a weak moment, it was on sale, and I haven't had it in years. Yep, still tastes the same...

Hey -- I have that same model bike. The paint reminds me of blue graniteware (well, if you squint a little).

Well, I picked up three bikes this afternoon. Two may end up as keepers, and I might be parting out the Raleigh. I have to see what the panto parts can bring.

1992 Paramount Series 5, 1988 Univega Alpina Pro, and who knows what year Raleigh Super Grand Prix.

Gotta love the Paramount came with two Paramount logo bottle holders.

You did well, Thrifty Bill!

Chris_in_Miami 09-29-10 06:14 PM

Great score Bill, I love that wild paint scheme! Nice Univega also, was it an all-or-none package deal, or was the MTB too nice to refuse?

Looks clean and in good working order, as far as I can tell. Can you turn it around and take a picture of the drive side of the bike?

Ross did some weird stuff like putting top shelf parts on middle of the road frames with stamped drop outs. I have seen a stock Ross with full Shimano 600 Arabesque group and 4130 straight gauge frame without shifter brazeons with Horrible looking stamped drops.
If it is ridable you got your moneys worth. not a bad looking bike at all.

The Ross is a Gran Tour. Looks to me like it is from the mid 80's. Nothing special, but it is a good, basic, recreational bike. Enjoy.

I agree with cb400bill. If you find you like it a lot, you can upgrade it with some nice tires and maybe aluminum rims.

Unbelievable garage sale day today. Almost nothing bike related, but we found a lot of other scores. My wife and I started really early (6AM), and our plan was to stop as soon as we went to a garage sale where we didn't buy a deal. Finally, we had to give it up at 1PM, even though we kept finding stuff. At the last garage sale, they had music CDs for 5 CENTS each. I bought them all, over 120 of them.

Only bicycle item was a pair of Shimano clipless pedals.

I bought a near mint '83 model last year as a flip. - Replaced all the rubber and bearings then I made the mistake of taking it out for a long test ride.
- And wouldn't you know, the darn thing hasn't sold yet ! :D

kknh3 10-02-10 06:18 PM

Not a major score, but some decent stuff. All for $10

I wish I would have kept mine, it was a great bike for the year I was on Okinawa. I ended up selling it to another Marine before I left.
