My friend picked up three bikes put out on the street by his neighbor last week: a Santa Cruz mtb bike, a Cervelo P3C and a Kestrel 200. Who throws that kind of stuff away!!!

zukahn1 04-02-19 06:43 PM

Found this in a pile of stuff headed for the dumb near were I live covered in ice and dirt. A very nice early cassette 6 speed DA MTB wheel with nice tire and rim. Knocked the dirt and ice off and pumped up the tire straitened the skewer a bit turns to my shock it's dead true the hub and freewheel spin perfect so now I have nice spare wheel for my 6 speed MTB and I just happen to have the 1st gen XT RD and Shifter to match the wheel in my parts bin.

Went a sale'ing this morning and this hipster followed me home on the back of the car. Didn't kick him off because I felt sorry for it being green, dented, and possibly high on performance enhancers.

But what is it? I know it ain't easy being green, as made obvious from the badly dented top tube. But this custom green paint job, and there's neon green shining through in spots where the green has been scraped. All I know is that the lady who sold it to me said her brother-in-law was told it would cost him a minimum of $100 to have a frame repair attempt made... so he bought another bike and dumped this one off for her to sell at her yard sale. Not pictured is the trip-computer which i pulled off to keep in the house.

Not really my 'catch' but stripped a few bikes at the co-op and strategically placed the frames in the 'frames for sale' area. They were a True-Temper Trek 400 and a Centurion Sport DLX.

They most likely would have been scrapped otherwise.

Interesting. A repaint or they could have removed the decals? Looks like someone raced the Hincapie ride in CO.

Thanks! It came on this 30$ trek. It started a whole frenzy of blue anodized acquisition for it. Need to update a photo of it.

Yours is a knockout with looks and ride too!

Thanks tiredhands, seems that's it and was able to identify the sizing thanks to that link too (54cm). Interesting, so it is actually a "Specialized" frame and not just components then, definitely looks the part. The Hincapie GPS tag is from the 2016 Greenville, S.C. ride. Makes me suspicious if this crashed in that ride or just what, the damage seems confined to the top tube, almost like something hit it numerous times (trunk lid or?. The top tub dents are rather worriesome as there are numerous small ones and that one big one. Not sure how well such a lightweight frame, guessing aluminum, will hold up with dents like that. If it were a steel frame I wouldn't have any doubts that it was still good to keep on trucking. First bike I've ever bought with carbon fiber components. More pics.:

Any Hi-E hub or hub parts?

I bought more jerseys, t-shirts, jackets, etc, than I have room for in all the closets in my house combined.

A lot of the parts will be going to local bike thrift stores, after I consult with the local bike wizard as to what will be the best way to handle this sheer volume of stuff.

I believe these are original Hi-E technical drawings, but I have not opened any of them far enough to confirm as of right now. I got a bunch of Hi-E stuff (and left even more behind).
https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...330ee5dcfa.jpg

Any Hi-E hubs or hub parts in that mother lode? And did the Hi-E stuff come from First Flight Bicycles in Statesville? I know that they bought up the remaining Hi-E inventory from the founders family a few years ago.

Sweet ride, must be a 310 or 400 Elance. I was able to unstick a seatpost like that by soaking it and then using a big (like 18") Crescent wrench. I put the wrench on the head of the post and worked it side to side, turning it probably less than 1 degree at first, until it gradually loosened up. You're gonna have those zigzag scratches on it, but it won't be too bad if you take it easy.

Umm. This is awkward . . . And you thought your seatpost was stuck

51cm frame.
Full 105 group.
Maybe too much “patina” to be used as a whole...yeah, definitely parts.

I see some Miami Vice pr0n. And a matching water bottle cage. Dang, where's my blazer?

Better check that joint between the brake bridge and the drive side seat stay.

Grabbed these from an auction last night. 87 Trek 400 Elance (Reynolds 531) and an 81 Fuji Monterey. The Fuji is awesome heavy and a mid to low range model, but in amazing condition for $1.25. The Trek needs a rebuild, but very decent shape. I’m almost not believing it only sold for $36. Fun stuff!
