https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...6bafd02ec.jpeg These were pulled off a high end Azuki Mixte. Instead of throwing them I thought I would see if they can be taken down to good pad. They looked original to the bike which was from the late 70’s, early 80’s. When did Kool Stop start making the Continental pads anyway? |

The only thing which saved it was the Campy headset and bottom bracket cup, which caught the eye of the picker, who snagged it for his bike friend in Poland, who sold it to me, not knowing what it was. Klaus Peter Thaler’s team Puch. Team serial number 001. Confirmed by him to be the bike he rode in the 1982 TdF, as well as many others. He was 4x WC in CX, twice as an amateur and twice as a pro and took 7th in the road WC in 1982, but not on this bike. |

Paint really rough with a bit of repaint in places. Components appear to be in great shape. Bar end shifters will be great for a long time drop bar project. This was Gitane's equivalent of the Peugeot PX-10 model. Most owners of both models love those bikes. Judging by how low the seat is, it looks like it was TOO BIG for who ever was riding it. You should be able to stand over the top tube and have 1" to 2 " of clearance between you and the tube - in case you ever have to do a quick dismount. From Schwinn, a good starting point: https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...71bac08cbd.jpg The stem is WAAAYYY TOO HIGH. It should be inserted at least 75mm - 80mm (3") into the steerer. Before it's ridden I'd recommend that the fork be pulled and the threads at the top of the steerer be inspected for any cracks. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...58b7d2087f.jpg When the expander wedge is tightened in the threads they can bulge and cracks develop. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...8f3c45a797.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...8df5bf571e.jpg There's lots of info concerning the rest of the bike. A Google search on Bike Forums for specific questions is faster and easier than the forum search engine. Also, some people like "safety levers" but they are unsafe for lots of reasons, especially the Weinmann/DiaCompe ones on your bike. verktyg :50: |
Not really saved from the dump nor is the bike vintage (around the year 2000, I think) but for fifty dollars, a near mint Trek mountain bike is not a bad deal...
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...6d4c64628d.jpg Needless to say, it does not fit, or interest, me and I did intend to make a fast fifty bucks by listing it, locally, on-line. Until my youngest grand daughter got her pretty little eyes on the bike, claiming it for herself, immediately. She will have to grow an inch, or so, but by next summer, when my wife and I bring her to spend a month with us at the lake, the bike will likely be good for her to ride (I hope)... https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...e4de939a9a.jpg |

Dr. Frankenstein I presume?
Nice day today saw a truck full of bikes going down the road, I mean full like 35 bikes stacked three high. I couldn't resist finding out more about them so I pulled along side and asked the guy, "What's up with all the bikes?" Turns out he is on his way home from a police auction where he had purchased the bikes. He was just a mile from his home and invited me to come take a look. With so many bikes it was hard to focus on anything in particular kind of like looking into a stuffed storage container. I started to check out the bikes as he and his son started unloading. A red frame road bike caught my eye and all I could see of it was what looked like a rising sun on the back of the seat post tube. Turned out to be a Nashbar Road Mk II a little scratched up and a 26" rear wheel in place of the original. Next to it was a Gary Fisher Mamba mountain but it didn't look right. Aliens walk among us this is the proof. 700 wheel set shoehorned into the 26" frame with road caliper brakes. Here's the scary part everything worked right down to the road bike corncob rear gear cluster. Scored both bikes for $30https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...c3a747bcce.jpg

Picked up some Suntour bear claws.

Got to a rummage sale just in time to see someone walk off with this Schwinn Le Tour Tourist. Great color - Price was $1. https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1861/...da106545_z.jpg |
^^Those are really nice! Shame the bluemels are all broken up. |
Another garage queen I ran across, an '85 Trek 450 in great shape mechanically and aesthetically. Alas, the top tube decals didn't do too well in the cleanup... Anyway, it's too small for me at 53cm and I have too many as is, I'll fix this up and find a new home for it - possibly a friend who's been asking about a steel bike in his size and price range - this might be the right one...
https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...0c0c65bf67.jpg Ooh! And I found this in the small saddlebag that came with it. Knocked 30 cents off the price, what a steal! https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...8ff5accf31.jpg |

I brought it home for $50 |
Good catch^^^^

1987 Schwinn Super Sport
Grabbed a nice original Super Sport today. Full 600 group, Cinelli bars and stem and Rigida wheels. Very clean ride. Love these late 80s Schwinn’s. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...7ee65dfc1.jpeg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...84808cd96.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...33ba25b6a.jpeg |

I picked up this '80s Mercier today. Here is a picture from the ad. I have it up on the stand and am tearing it down. The guy I bought it from is in the military and was being deployed so he was getting rid of stuff. It didn't cost me much. It has Campy shifters, hubs, pedals, derailleurs, bottom bracket, headset and crankset.

Well, it's here. Fished it out of the dumpster in the rain at the co-op's new location after letting it sit there for a couple of weeks. I figured if it was unreachably covered with more scrap or had been grabbed by now then I was spared having to bring it home and would only feel badly about some of those rod brake parts getting away. As it is, the brake pads will replace the (wrong!) Dia Compe pads on the rear of my complete-but-ratty Tourist and I'll hang the rest from the rafters as garage decor until someone who needs it comes along. It's a 24" frame with a slight dent in the top tube.
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...c7db846440.jpg Dumpster view a few weeks ago. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...8f1d3aefad.jpg Here it is at the old place, how it looked for a couple of years and when I first saw it. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...70c58be73c.jpg |
Freewheel vise, still being made/sold - Freewheel Cluster Vise . I just got one recently, to take apart an old Suntour cassette, the kind where the two smallest sprockets thread on. Works great. By no means obsolete.

Univega Ital Sport. Campy Triomphe (?) Derailleurs, shifters, brake levers. Sugino crank, Miche pedals, Ofmega hubs
$15 "Gimme 10 bucks or it's going to the dump" I gave him $15. Frame is decent & my size, but don't need another bike. Could be a winter, fender bike. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...84404db910.jpg |

http://magaimg.net/img/6aqf.jpg http://magaimg.net/img/6aq8.jpg http://magaimg.net/img/6aqc.jpg Saved these the other day from certain death as I pulled them out of a large scrap bin. See the thread here for more details about the save and what I'm trying to do to keep this from happening, as it is an ongoing thing. Contents - Schwinn Super Sport Raleigh Super Course Schwinn Mirada Schwinn Crisscross Trek 800 + various small bits and wheels Bridgestone MB-3 I will be donating most to the local co-op and probably working on them myself to get them back in shape. I'm going to donate the Super Course and the Super Sport frames to any BF member who is willing to donate some tubes or patch kits to the outfit where I got them from. Sizes are large, probably 64cm or so. |
For 2 $20s I got a parts bike, 87 Trek Antelope 800 so I can update the Clunker Challenge Ibex now that I am done with the Mileage. Front wheel and stem will migrate to the Ibex for sure and other parts will get sold, donated to the Co-op or put in the parts bin

This Trek 620 (1985) was put out in the trash near my home. I spotted it while out on a ride. Score. Trek 620 with Shimano 600 triple, Matrix wheels, Dia Compe cantis, Huret shifters, Huret RD, Stronglight headset. Original handlebars and brake lever are missing. |
$10 at yardsale. Don't know the name of the bike store but telephone number is now a fax number for an elementary school
12 x 24 inch so practical sized sign I can hang in house and funny thing I happen to have both Fuji and Raleighs in my garage..... https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...560a331d0d.jpg Back from the days of not dialing area codes for local calls so at least 27-28 years old |
