That stem is badazz!!! Can I have it?


Found this at the flea market this morning. Double butted Tange MTB, and forged drops. Mid level Shimano with motorcycle levers. It's BEGGING for a bullmoose transplant, and a have a couple of sets waiting. Should be a fun machine to tool around on. Not too shabby for $25 I thought. Beats a

Grabbed these up the other day. The Otasco girls bike is for parts, the schwinn suburban is for paint practice, the 73? Western Flyer is for parts, and I haven't decided what to do with the 66 varsity yet.

I also managed to dig an absolutely amazing bike from the trash, a completely rusted Magna!:lol: It had a nice $30 rack on it though that I already pulled off.

The nice chrome fenders on the Western Flyer are worth what I gave for all of these, so I came out ahead on this one.

Last week I went out to my local yellow bike and was looking in the junk bike dumpster, usually Wal Mart type bikes end up there. I spied a red frame that looked to be the right size and pulled it out. It was a Schwinn Peloton complete except for wheels. I volunteer there so I get my pick of frames I want in exchange.
I replaced the brake cables and bartape, put a set of French made Schwinn approved wheels on it from my parts pile. I also put a longer cage deraileur on it to handle a six speed 13/28 free wheel as the chain rings are 53/45 which is pretty steep for where I live.
Everything else on it is original. Turns out to be a 1984 model.
Took it out for a 12 mile shakedown it rides great.

What a score! Some of you guys must have horseshoes up your butts! :D

That white bike in the poster looks more like a rebadged Kestrel.

The Univega is sweet but the Schwinn is outstanding for it's condition! An excellent find!

I visited this guy who is like the lady that takes in stray cats but only his strays are bikes. 20 on front driveway, 20 in his side alley, and 20 more inside his shop. May God bless guys like that because I was able to salvage some parts I needed, and also some parts I didn't need but might use later.

I got a super nice deal today. A shimano deore dx front derailleur, shimano deore dx long cage rear derailleur, and shimano deore xt long cage derailleur all for $10 in perfect working order. That's the first decent bicycle related stuff I've ever found in a pawn shop.

Found a couple more in the last week. One is a not so special Panasonic ATB that will make a nice single speed city bike for someone. MC2500 I think is the model? BIG lugged frame, and a nice blue color. Too bad about the steel hubs, but that can be fixed.

Next is a gold 1978 Carlton Super Course. I need another Super Course like a need another hole in the head, but what can I say I have a weakness for them. It came like you see minus the wheels and saddle. I just threw them on to get a decent picture of it. $30 for a 531 frame and parts is not a bad deal in my book. It even came with barcons and a Suntour Cyclone long cage. Now I have to find a front to go with it. All of my Cyclone is later stuff, without the black inset logo. I like these quite a bit but have never had one. Going to be a fun build. Looks just bad enough to have patina, hehe.

Next is a Trek 520, 1994 I think? It's pretty clean, but WAY too small for me unfortunately. I am going to flip it at the bike swap next month, after it gets some drops and a derailleur swap. Probably to XT. I like this DX stuff, hehe.:D,,,,BD

I love DX derailleurs. They're the same quality as XT imo, plus if you have to buy them off ebay they're much cheaper. I think Shimano Deore DX/XT is the way to go. Affordable yet dependable. I've built 3 bikes now with dx, and one with xt. Now I've got several more derailleurs so I need to find some bikes to put them on.:lol:

When you're ready to sell it, let me know what you want for it. I probably won't buy it, but I'd at least like to know... Maybe I'll catch the wife on a good day. :D

That Trek 520 is worth several hundred bucks on ebay.

If it was a size larger, I would have been e-mailing already asking for price and if you ship.

It's a Kenevans Competition (Australian frame builder of some repute) and sports early Suntour Superbe Pro Groupset, Diacompe brakes and Mavic Rims. This one definately needs a repaint but appears basically sound, if very neglected.

Wow pretty stuff there mate. Don't bother repainting, rub it out with some rubbing compound and cleaning wax, then buff it out good with some car wax. And of course refurb all the easy replaceables.

^^^ Nice save indeed! The brake bridge appears to be similar to modern ones. Perhaps this frame takes recessed brake nuts? If so, all you need is a set of Superbe brakes to complete her. Congrats on a very nice bike.

On a short, for the hell of it ride with my friend Chris, his girlfriend Koda, and I we stopped into the local Cause For Paws (consignment shop). After quickly checking the back to see if there were any bikes (there weren't) I remembered my idea to find an old camera bag and turn it into a handlebar bag. Well, after a little bit of digging around, I found a neat looking one. It's nylon, with a strap with leather on it.
After riding back with it I took it apart a little to figure out my mounting options. I quickly realized the shoulder strap for it would work well looped under my handlebars and over my stem. Took a little fidgeting with, but it turned out well. It's got a front pocket, a divider, and a little mesh pocket. It's just big enough for a camera, maybe a sandwich and a Clif bar, and something else. Maybe now I can start taking pictures of the area around my house. Of course, I have pics of it.
I still need to glue the bottom of the main flap clasp to the actual bag, so that it doesn't drag on the front wheel, but otherwise it's good. It sits high enough that I can fold it completely open so that I can access everything in it.

CL find, supposedly built by Francisco Cuevas, can anyone tell? It's been raced and hence ridden hard but appears to be in pretty good shape. Very light and way too small for me but I couldn't pass it up. Zeus hubs, pedals and seat binder bolt, Cinelli bar and stem, low end Modolo brakes and Campy for the rest. You can't really see it in these photos but the dropouts have this nice open tubing treatment. The tubes are plugged but not completely filled and still concave, if that makes any sense.
