I'm not sure when Fuji started hating Shimano, but at some point when Shimano became a enemy of Suntour by trying to run them out of business Fuji parted ways with Shimano because of their bullying.

I weighed my Fuji, and it came it 20.8 with Suntour ARX; the 84 did not come with Cyclone M-II until 85; see this for specs on the 84: https://classicfuji.com/1984_10_ClubFuji_Page.htm And this for 85: https://classicfuji.com/1985_10_ClubFuji_Page.htm Cyclone was the better shifter though, the ARX is not as positive nor as fast and supposedly had reliability issues. I'm going to keep the ARX on the bike till they fail then replace with Cyclone myself. The spec sheet shows 23 pound weights, but I checked my with a scale and tested the scale for accuracy by putting known weights from barbells on the scare and it came out at 20.8 without water bottles or seat bag.

The reliability issues with ARX may not be real or may be real, I say that because I have a bike with Suntour Superbe Tech system and they claimed for years that that derailleur was a major problem, really? After 150,000 miles on that system I haven't had one issue with it!! I wonder when the derailleur will start having problems? Like an idiot because of claimed problems I bought a spare Tech rear about a year after I bought the original stuff thinking I may need it, I still have it unopened in it's original box waiting to be used. I love the Tech, it shifts very fast and positive even under load which was very nice to have when I rode the mountains of California.

The loss of Suntour was a tradgedy for the cycling community.

Yea My Club Fuji has all Shimano parts. Here are the scans of my model from Classic Fuji. I also dated the components a while back which put it in late 1988, but It was sold for the 1989 Year. There was no Club Fuji in the 1988 Catalog. Also all of the other bikes on the specs page have Shimano Parts. I did look through all of the other catalogs though and didn't notice any Shimano parts in the 1977-1986 Fuji catalogs unless I missed some somewhere.

There's this guy who rides with the Night Riders around here. He's car free and rides this bike with flat bars and always tows a trailer, even on short group rides. I met him in the bike store today and finally got a look at his bike in the light. It's a Club Fuji kind of like yours. He's had it for years (since new, I think) but has converted it into a rugged urban hybrid. In some respects it's terrible abused, but it must have thousands and thousands and thousands of miles on it.

I have aRX on my Super Course. Seems to shift okay, but I will be slapping a Cyclone M-II on there when I get my new freewheel.

Well then I seriously know you're wrong. Those components are on a 84 Trek I bought new as a frame and fork, I had the Suntour Superbe line put on the bike. I was racing back when I built this bike up in Cat 3 races and thus trained and raced on it year round in California. I averaged about 15,000 miles a year on that bike for the first 4 years, those first 4 years alone comes to around 60k. After racing I averaged 6,000 miles a year for the next 14 years which means another 84k. Then for the next 7 years I averaged 3,500 miles due to moving to Indiana and no longer ride it year round. This last year I retired the bike till I can get it painted. So in reality I've gone over 150,000 miles on the bike, but I always just say 150,000 and forget the rest.

That might be due to Suntour's Accushift system was not as good as Shimano and since click and shift came into being about 85 Fuji may have felt forced to go with Shimano to keep up with the times. I'm guessing at of this though. One of my LBS's in town is managed by a guy who use to be a marketing rep for Fuji back in those days, and he's the one that said Fuji hated Shimano for the way they ran their business against Suntour, and being that both Suntour and Fuji were small companies there was a kindred spirit going on between them. Please note again, I'm only going on what was told to me by a former Fuji factory rep.

The Cyclone is a great fast shifting flawless derailleur, you will be surprised at the difference in shifting over the ARX.

The beauty of it is, I got the Cyclone as an add-in to another deal for a frame I never built up.

Took this Panasonic MTB in as partial trade on a MTB today. The good: Tange Infinity frame. The not so hot: U brake (rear), Suntour XCM components. We'll have to see how it cleans up.

Wow, that saddle is way out of place. Will have to see if it has any value, as it has to come off this bike (along with the chrome steel seat post, ugh).

Famous last words: "no more MTBs." Here I go again...

is this characteristic of most drive trains? this is the first time I've heard of that kind of mileage being put on the same system.

It is characteristic of older drive trains, newer stuff made since the mid 90's probably won't make it. There was a mentally handicapped guy that lived in New York that had evidence of a bike he put over a million miles on it! He had all the chain rings to prove it, and the bike shop that he first bought the bike from and got it serviced at all those years confirmed it.

There were some drive trains made back then that weren't that good like lower end components from all the manufactures, Simplex had durability issues, even mid end Campy had problems. But back then the best stuff as far as reliability was coming out of Japan, and Suntour over engineered a lot of their products. But what's weird about my particular Suntour Superbe Tech stuff is that supposedly they had problems, read this about the Tech: https://www.disraeligears.co.uk/Site/...284800%29.html But like I said so far it's been a dream derailleur, if the unit goes bad after it comes out of rehab I won't be upset because it lasted a long time and won races on it...plus I have a new spare.

Also that site I gave mentions problems similar to the MounTech, guess what? Yup, I have one of those on a 85 Schwinn Le Tour Luxe I'm going to use for heavy touring when I retire. I bought it last winter in mint condition with 250 miles on it, since then I put on about 1,200 miles including some light weekend touring, and so far that derailleur is also a dream, it shifts the wide range gears quickly and with ease. I do know that with both derailleurs I have to keep them clean even though supposedly they were designed to take dirt, but I keep all my stuff clean so there's no problem there.

Not much. I suggest throwing it up on a pay it forward or trade thread.

Not exactly a gem some would say, saved it from C-list. =0) Orig owner told me he was going to trash it when I contacted him. Miyata Allumitech 6500, better pics to come.

Damn, that's cheap for $20, I've seen those on e-bay go for $650. I own a 84 660 with the same color scheme and of course the same color cables. I bought mine new in 84 as a frame/fork set to replace one that got twisted up. I had the 660 adorned with Suntour Superbe. I retired the bike this year in an attempt to preserve the components, and plan on getting it repainted maybe next summer or the following summer, I'm not in a rush since I have other bikes to ride. I raced and trained on that bike for 4 years, then rode it almost everyday for fitness; the California sun tore up the decals and the paint after 21 years of that abuse. But it's a fantastic riding bike, I hope it fits you and you ride it. I assume your's has to be either a 84 or 85 since those were the only two years that color was made for the 660.

By the way the derailleurs, if their Shimano 600's were not original on either year bike; in 84 the derailleurs were Campy New Record and nothing Shimano on the entire bike; in 85 they used Ofmega Mistral, and the only Shimano component on that year bike was the Shimano 600 pedals. I assume then you must have an 85 and the Shimano 600 part you were talking about is the pedals?

But you made a fantastic find; even if the components weren't all original I would have bought it fast anyways!!!

Nice bike, it is indeed in great shape. The derailleurs are not original equipment the factory put on stock, at some point a owner swapped out the Ofmega derailleurs for the Shimano 600. Shimano 600 is Ultegra which isn't bad stuff of course. I own several classic cars, thus my thoughts are always toward preserving the original parts, which is just me. But I would try to find the original derailleurs off E-bay...but again, that's the way my brain is wired.

Just picked this up over the weekend at a Hospice Thrift store. It is a Madsen KG271. This is after cleaning it up. The tub was spray painted with graffiti and it still needs some more cleaning. Pretty high quality components. SRAM X-5 8 speed, Brooks B67 saddle and mechanical disc brakes on the front. I usually do not say what I pay for stuff, but I picked this up for $80. https://s225.photobucket.com/albums/d...adsen%20KG271/
