It's been dead around here on Craigslist for about a year, not sure why but I keep looking anyways. There are bikes on Craigslist but their all those single speed old bikes, BMX/stunt bikes, heavy Schwinn tanks, or the Walmart type of crap. Then I get daily reports from here about all the great bikes you all are finding.
I'm jealous.

^I just got myself a 7-speed Next soft-tail cruiser at the co-op for $1. I suppose that's a catch, even though I've spent three days getting it in shape and converting the bolt-ons to quick release. Took it out today with the kids in the cold (37 degrees) and froze my chin.

[QUOTE=guzziee;15305077]Finally found one of these that is not super tall, buddy of mine picked it up at a local car swap meet for pennies and gave me a very good can't say no price on it.
Nice catch. That is a great color.

The local C/L rarely has anything either. When I do find bikes on C/L, they tend to be a few hours away (one way, in another city). So I have to balance the added gas and travel against the deal. Drove two hours one way to pick up a Dave Scott Ironman two weeks ago.
My last good C/L road bike find was from an ad for a totally, completely, trashed old MTB. I decided to check it out, even though it looked rough. It was worse in person (what a waste of time), but then the seller rolled out a road bike he had neglected to post on C/L, and included it in the deal. Score.

CL has been good to me as of late. Within the last month, I have found a 1997 Specialized Ground Control Comp, a pair of his and hers 1972 Sshwinn Suburbans in Sierra Brown, with little signs of use, and a 1989 Schwinn 564 Aluminum road bike that's in good shape, despite a thick coat of dust. The most I paid was $50 for the Suburbans, but the kicker was that the seller had bought $100 worth of parts from Bike Tires Direct that didn't fit the bikes and he threw them in. So I also got 4 Continental 1 1/8 Ultra Sports, 4 sets of Avid threaded V brake shoes and 2 bikes worth of SS shift and brake cables.

I will certainly shed a tear when they start taxing out of state internet sales, but as it is, I already pay my fair share. I count my blessings that Wa. doesn't have a state income tax. (yet)

I drove by SIMS metal recycling and they had a backup of pickups waiting to get in. Almost every truck had some bikes or parts in the loads. It would be fun to go down some afternoon and see what they have. I'd bet $5 for a bike would be better than the $2 mixed metal for one.

I went way off track on this one. Its not vintage, its not steel, its not a racing or touring bike. And its a frankenbike to boot! It does have beautiful Paul canti brakes, and it does have an 8 speed DA rear wheel, that I was needing for another project.

Now back to some vintage content, picked up this neglected Fuji mixte, its got it all! (Stuck stem, stuck post, etc).

It came with this completely trashed Marin MTB, probably a lost cause here. Stripped it down, BB is seized.

I pulle something similar from next to a bin in my alley, 20" kids "mtn bike" with a front shock. Nearly threw my back out trying to get it in the car. Worth more at the scrapyard!

Bikes: I used to have many. And I Will again.
I went to check out this circa '93 Giant Sedona ATX 20" mtb frame on Saturday. It's missing the fork, but it's very light, and nicely welded...and after chatting with the owner, he gave it to me gratis!
Plans for a drop bar mtb, if I can find a matching fork.

I've got a few 26" mtb threaded forks (black and chrome). I'd be glad to send you one just for the cost of shipping. Just need the length to make sure they are correct.
