It's a Benotto Triathlon. Not sure what the original gear was, but there are 105 brakes, and Light Action 6 speed derailleurs. Front wheel looks to be stock with a Benotto sticker, the rear is a Mavic MA40.
I think this is a Mexico-made Benotto. I don't know the history or specs to this model...it has oval shaped tubing for the downtube and seat tube.
But $50...can't go wrong.

Nice find Will, I told you it wouldn't take too long build up the collection again, it's what we do :D

Zach, I dig that Trek, similar to my Bianchi Tourer I am working on which is also brown/rootbeer colored.

If that blue saddle is a Laser, I have one just like it in WAY better condition. Unfortunately I sent it home with my GF, and I won't have access to it until the beginning of June.,,,,BD

WNG 04-20-13 09:06 AM

Thanks for the offer Dued! Not sure what it is, but I'll probably replace it with a blue/black parts bin saddle I have somewhere.

I found an old post that T-Mar claims this 1988 frame is high-tensile steel. But it's as light as some of my other cr-moly frames! I'll clean it up, ride it for a while and flip it, since it's too big for me.

Paramount1973 04-20-13 12:30 PM

Literally saved the bike, sans wheels, from being scrapped by the coop. They gave it to me for free. The only shot I have of the 'before' condition is the fork:

Completed bike - I only used the frame and replaced the components:

Paramount1973...great rehab on that Schwinn. I really like the picks of your workshop on your Flickr album. That worker and is awesome. Does it work as well as it looks?

Found this 1988 Schwinn Prelude at a garage sale last weekend for $20. It had no handlebars, no quill stem, no brake levers, no pedals, and the seat & tires were trashed. Scrounged through my parts bins and got it rolling as shown. The frame's a little too small for me, so the original plan was to flip the parts, but after a week of cruising around the neighborhood fior week I think (at a minimum) this is going to make a great townie-style bike; might even bring it back to its drop-bar glory.

Not True, have the trophies, the scars, and the memories to prove otherwise. I rode an '82 Torker, hard.
And for US$40, you scored, big time.

A good find is a good find. Handmade quality and beautiful to look at. I found an '81 Mongoose at thrift for $7.50 with the tuff mags, chromed frame like yours. Just needed air in the tires. I (unbeknownst to my wife) had a makeshift BMX track in my basement up until flipping the bike for a hefty sum. Gave me great satisfaction and had fun researching and learning about old mongeese. Cheers to vintage BMX.

Thanks! I was hoping someone would chime in. I found an 82 Torker once, it was on the back of a pickup truck headed to scrap. I was in my work truck, but turned around and he was tickled pink to get ten bucks. Sold it to a friend of mine. I also found two Hutches at my local flea market when I lived in Houston. One was $5, and he practically threw it into my arms. Here, it's a good bike he says. The other one was $40, snapped up by a buddy. In fact I sold all three of them to my same friend. This Goose, and some cash, is going to buy this! It has me WAY more excited! My buddy bought it off ebay, then figured out it wouldn't fit him. Can't wait to get going on the build, though I have to find a job in Houston first, hehe.,,,,BD

Maybe I should take a lesson from BBC bikes, and put it on ebay for 10 grand?

Not sure what you were referring to by 'worker'. Work stand? It's fine and basically as functional as the Park stands we use at the bike coop.

I had the original Viscount seat on my '95 Schwinn Cruiser SS and the 60s Hawthorne I gave as a gift recovered and rebuilt by a very good upholsterer (who was about to retire so I was lucky).

Backroads 'Mistaya'. Fuji built for local touring company. I tried to talk the seller into a rehab but they said it was on a oneway trip out-of-there... Suntour XCM...

Not a bike but, I was telling my boss about a problem I was having with my lower end park repair stand not wanting to hold position when you turn it upside down as the swivel clamp wouldn't tighten no more and it would always slip, he says to me take one of ours we got three of them. He gave me a Park stainless commercial unit with the heavy 1/4" base and new jaws installed, said it was a delayed Christmas present, I really didn't know what to say except thank you & gave him a hug. I have never had a employer treat me the way he does & it's sure nice to see that your appreciated for what you do. Last Xmas he gave me the Park TS-2 truing stand plus a few bike hand tools & this year he gave me the gauge for checking the truing stand ( which I wanted ) plus a derailleur hanger gauge ( which I already had from my wife ) so he said he would get me something else, well I think this was a little more then something else.

^^ Wow Glenn! Very nice present indeed!

puchfinnland 04-22-13 11:57 AM

just scored my second jersey for only 25 bucks!

this is weird, I have seen over 10 of these come around in the last year and they were from year 1981 only...

I think I win for "wierdest thing found at the flea market"
A nimbus 36" unicycle, and no I am not going to ride it. Too fast, I tried and it has been 30+ years since I rode one and it shows. This thing is nuts!

I put 300 flyers out yesterday and netted a Roadmaster. Today I bought these two. I may part out the saddles.

Not all there but the Dump coughed up this Giant TCR-2...

http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=313348 http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=313350

Not all that interested in the frame, but the components and little used wheel set are a nice find. The wheels, if ten and nine speed can be switched easily, will be Cyclops bound very soon...

Two days before, I picked up a picthed out Bianchi Strada LX, an entry level bicycle, to say the least but at least the bikes have started to flow in Thunder Bay, now that that stupid winter has bailed (I hope!).

frantik 04-27-13 01:33 PM

the whole concept of a dump where people take perfectly good things is crazy to me.. where i live you just put something you don't want outside and it will be gone in no time. Maybe stuff still does get thrown out, but i don't know why someone wouldn't list it on craigslist first

IthaDan 04-27-13 08:04 PM

Bought some old french thing today. Forgot to take a "before" pic. Front brake wasn't having it, and the tires were both FUBAR, so I replaced them. It's *big*, those shifters are a LONG way down. Not sure what I'll do with it, but I do have a pair of simplex retrofrictions that will come up free in a day or two when I put the barcons back on the 720 I picked up a couple weeks back.

Crazy old school micro adjust, never seen one like this. It's 10 ways to backwards from a modern one though, I kept screwing it up trying to get the seat level.

http://i.imgur.com/tMKsV4Ll.jpg

Still don't know what this bike is, but judging by the surface finishes on these parts, it's not the bottom of the barrel pug.

Anyone know what this is? It looks kind of like a 81-83ish PFN 10, but the colors and brakes don't line up.

Check the left side chain stay for a paper tag? That's about all I can offer.,,,,BD

Nice looking pug though, for SURE!
