The fork has definitely been replaced then. I don't see any crash damage, maybe when the other parts were upgraded?
I noticed it was clear coated, it does have some scratches and scrapes but overall pretty good. I used meguiars cleaner wax or some such. Thanks for the info, your bike looks great! As for value, it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay. I doubt I would pay what I could probably sell it for, but I'm cheap. Remove the saddle and this would easily fit into the clunker challenge |

Those chrome Voyageurs were clear coated to hold the decals. Otherwise they would have peeled off within a month or less of being sold. Don't use metal polish unless it has been stripped and has modern vinyl decals. It may have a chemical reaction with the clear. A nice light paint polish should work just fine. The one I found was bad enough that I stripped the clear and got replacement decals. I have somewhat been looking for another, since I sold mine 5-6 years ago now. Everybody thinks they're gold now though, and want $300 and up for so/so non original examples.,,,,BD
There was one locally last year, and they wanted $200.. All of the components had fuzzy green corrosion on the steel parts, and the chrome had a whole lot of pitting going on. A clear indication of being stored in a shed or garage, with fertilizer and/or pool chemicals. They were incredulous when I offered $60 for it. And yes, they had an investment cast fork crown that looked like a narrowed mtb style, and the steerer was .833... The crown looked like this.. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-40j_nD2x2A...0/DSC00090.jpg If you practice on a steel pipe or PVC pipe about the same diameter of the frame tubing you can get Eastwood Diamond Clear Satin/Metal in a rattlecan and respray the entire bike, or have it professionally repainted with a clearcoat which most LBS's can have that done for you by a private person they know that repaints bikes, that would protect the chrome the best, then when you have the bike clear coated again you can put a non abrasive wax on it to protect the clear coat but read the directions on the can some say you can wax a fresh paint or clearcoat for a month after the application. You have to clean the chrome real well before you spray this stuff and make sure there's no water spotting or that will be trapped under the clearcoat forever. |
You know all, as always;).,,,,BD

I got a 1985 Fuji Sagres in my size. It's rough and doesn't have wheels but it was $5.
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...psv0c2jwcq.jpg The seatpost is stuck. Beyond that it needs a good cleaning, chain, wheels, and to lose the turkey levers and stem shifters. It may be a lower end bike, but it's triple butted. I weighed it with a set of wheels and as is it's 25 lbs. |
^^ well yes, like your handle.:)
Great take in for 5 clams! Silver means you can go with a sophisticated build. Noodle handlebars, hammered fenders and Brooks. |

Picked up this vintage Park Tool PCS-1 repair stand this morning. The woman I bought it from is an avid biker but was moving to an apartment and had to get rid of it. The repair stands have changed a lot over the years but this one was cheap and will work just fine.

Yep, the Park PCS-1 is a fine stand. I have one, actually maybe a later version that allows for height adjustment. Not especially crucial in my case. You might want to weigh down the legs, though. It's reasonably stable but sometimes has the tendency to tip backwards even if on a level surface. Happens to me when I get engrossed in the job at hand and not paying particular attention to bike position or when wrenching down hard. Just a little insurance and peace of mind, for me, anyway.

Recently had a beat up aluminium alloy frame MTB given to me. It had a short cage old-school Shimano 105 rear derailler on it. The derailler has that light grey anodizing on it. There was no rear deailler cable housing stop either and the shifters on the one piece straight bar/stem were toast. I switched the bar/stem to a riser stem and a steel drop bar with modified suicide brake levers. The modified brake levers are now minus the auxiliary brake lever but have the shifters from an old pair of downtube shifters mounted there instead. Here's a couple of images with more in the MTB Dropbar Conversion thread. I hose clamped a derailler adjusting barrel to the chaistay to use as a cable housing stop.

Cool, but needs a couple of "Jegs" stickers on it.

Frame Cracking?
Hey!
Heres a link to the other thread I started, just casting a broad net. Can anyone tell me if this 1974 frame is cracking or if this is typical paint wear and rust? THANKS!! http://www.bikeforums.net/classic-vi...aint-help.html ^^other thread https://postimg.org/image/829xh8nuv ^^frame close-up https://postimg.org/image/ulo7isold ^^whole bike |

Picked this 460 up really cheap due to a bent fork. I didn't notice the Mavic wheels and Campy hubs till I got it home.

Here's my latest score, an '80 P-8 Peugeot super sport for $25. You don't see many with a triple chainring &
the Recorde Du Monde frame is remarkably light & agile. Haven't done a thing to it but add a tube. It was perfectly tuned. |

I think many LBS workers think if a bike is old it isn't worth anything. In the dumpster it goes. No appreciation for classics. What a shame.

I look at it as a donation. :) |

I picked up the exact bike last weekend. It is in near perfect condition. I paid a bit more than $30. You have a great find there.
