It's a gitane. There are more out there, but there is NOT a lot of information about it.

No front wheel, chain on the bike but not going through the rear derailleur and the back wheel a little out of true. Sitting at the curb for trash and salavaged while rolling out for my Sunday ride.

Raleigh Olympian most likely a 1983 model.

Bikes: Early 90's Pinarello Gavia, '84 Guerciotti, '91 GF Hoo Koo e Koo, '88 Giant Iguana, '09 Specialized XC

A little horse trading today yielded these: Trek 610, haven't dug into it to nail down the year yet (I'm sure someone will tell me before I have a chance , and a RANS Wave Recumbent. I am one of the spurned/scorned on this forum who has a thrift store connection. I don't ask for special treatment... sometimes I just get it and it feels good damn it. I traded three bikes and a wheelset.

Bikes: See my sig...

Scored a few sets of Panaracer 27 by 1 Tri Sports in absolutely perfect (mint) condition and remember how fond I was of these tyres back in the day as they roll fast, ride extremely well, and always seemed very puncture resistant... and for $5.00 each I bought enough to last me a good long time.

As I wanted to build another set of wheels for my Peugeot AO8 I built up some Weinman 27 inch hoops (NOS) I forgot I had to some Formula fixed hubs so I could use them... as this is my beater / bar hopping /rain bike the cartridge bearing hubs will be great.

Took a little test ride and at 100 psi they are still smooth, fast, and ride beautifully and the bike is considerably quicker than it was when it was rolling on Marathons but then, I really knocked off a lot of wheel weight by losing those and the coaster hub it was running.

I don't get people. Doesn't everyone have either access to a library computer or one at home to do basic research???? Good grief, are people really so stinking lazy???? If I'd found that Ritchey, it would've cost you at least 1500% more!

Love these tyres.

And I am pretty fond of the old Pug... which was a nice catch too.

Yeah I couldn't give them the money fast enough, all the cable guides and rear brake boss need replacing, have found a bike builder that is a gun at brazing so it will be off to him soon. Thinking about upgrading the group set to 7800 Dura Ace and also have a pair of wolber profile 18 tubs with DA 7400 hubs that will look great on it, might take a while but a great addition to the collection.

Well, that sounds like a hot set up! I hope you'll be able to post it in the "retro roadies- old frames with STI's or Ergos" forum.

Bikes: a motley crew they be

Scrapyard gold today!

I stopped in at my local metal recyclers this afternoon and found a pile of stuff priced by the pound.

Wheels:

This one in particular has a hub I don't recognise. Could it be a Roval?

Couple of bikes and frames, the worse for wear. The grey aluminum frame is a Rocky Mountain but unfortunately the dropout is snapped, should still be able to pull some parts.

Finally, something that could be a major score: an old Hobbs of Barbican frame and crank, looks like early Reynolds tubing. I know nothing about these and it is somewhat the worse for wear but the rust doesnt appear to be too serious and it is straight. Will dig around properly on the net when I have time but in the meantime if anyone on here knows about these, I'd love to hear from you. Based on these links I wonder if it could be from the 1930s (it has the "high manganese butted tubing" label):

They wanted 40 bones for the lot, which I paid quite happily.

Did you figure out why the bolt looks like that?

I have a late 1970s Profil 2 team bike. The bolt fits and holds in place the top of a purpose made tyre pump!

You're right about it being a good bike to ride.

So not only did you find a Ritchey for 10 bucks but you found a Ritchey for 10 bucks in your size? That is some great karma, congrats!

Yes, I'd consider that a major score.

I don't know anything about Hobbs specifically but I agree, the Reynolds tubing sticker suggests a bike from the 30's and I see nothing to contradict this. The crank is presumably a Williams, which will have a date code on each crank arm as well as the chainring, a series of letters around a dagger, which you can look up on the internet. Better photos, please? Also of the stem and handlebar?

Unable to find a date code or any markings whatsoever on the cranks, but here's some pics of the stem and headset. Having trouble uploading the crank pics; it seems the files are too big.

Dang, Gordo, you officially suck! That color would match the early eighties Nishiki Cresta I have, but, alas, I was only able to pick up a teal and pink Backroads for the same $50... Nice catch!
