That era Deore is my favorite. Should clean up nicely!

One of the guys I work with does a little scrapping to make a couple extra bucks. He saved this from becoming scrap metal and gave it to me last week. It's a Schwinn Hollywood. Not sure of the year but I am guessing late 60's. Tires are shot and its got patina. I soaked the chain and everything that supposed to move with WD40 just to free everything up. Got the chain free but the rear hub just spins.

I was thinking of putting on some 26x2.125 white walls and using it to ride to the convenience store up the street it just the way it is.

Actually I saw this posted on CL, 36 minutes after it was posted I was loading it into my truck. I paid the full asking price $20.

A Schwinn Continental. I enjoy wrenching on the old bicycles during the cold Midwestern cycling off season. First I will make it safe to ride and enjoy it a bit this summer. I know nothing about it yet. I am not even sure of it's color... its sort of redish.

Edit: Just did a search on the SN and discovered the bike is a: 1975 Schwinn Continental, finish/color is chestnut.

Picked up a nice one today on CL. A 1980 Motobecane Grand Touring (that is what I gathered from some date codes on the components). It has the Vitus 888 frame/fork with Suntour VX group and Normandy hubs. It looks to be all original including the bar pads. I'm reading pretty good stuff about these. It looks to just need a clean, tune and tires and it's ready to go. The seller said he had several people calling about it today, so I hope I didn't spoil anybody's day on here.

You just "found" it? Golly, most of us would have to BUY that!
- All kidding aside, that is one helluva find, Daniel. Congratulations! :thumb:

I had one identical to this - I recall the color well - the pics don't really tell the tale, but the color was gorgeous in person.

Another GT find?! This model is one of my favorites Branden. It's bound to be one of yours as well. Enjoy.

It is pretty cool. I'm having trouble putting an exact year on it. Best I can tell from doing searches and looking at catalog scans is that it is between 1980-84. Can't wait to take it out. Going to be easy to get it pristine.

The French don't seem to be as consumed with exact dates and production line identities as does some other cultures. If the wheels are original the front wheel hub [stamp] maybe a close guess at the manufactured year.

I'm not too worried about it. It does have the original Weinmann concave wheels. I'll check the hubs when I start working on it.

It almost looks pristine now! Great find, congrats.

I'm saying this is "Saved from the Dump".

Three weeks of work to remove this post. Tried bench vises, PB Blaster, CRC Freeze-off, Ammonia, a pipe wrench with a cheater bar (that finally spun it, but I couldn't get it out) and finally, a hacksaw. This is right up there with completing my solo tour and my first century as top-bicycle moments:

Thank you! :)

Actually I did pay for it, but considering what kind of bike it is, it wasn't that much. PY's are extremely difficult to come by, and this one is exactly my size. :)

Cool. What is the frame it was attached to? Can't quite read the decal on the seat stay.

It's a Muddy Fox, the Seeker model. A rarity here in the States as far as I can tell. Apparently it was a British company, manufactured in Taiwan. Cool paint, Tange infinity tubing, XCD parts, and very cool and massive purple stem.

Picked this early 1990's Series 50 up last night, too small for me. One hundred miles round trip to buy it, but acquired at an irresistible price. wrk101 thinks I have a divining rod for finding PDG MTB's deals.

Nice find Oddjob.

I had a good day as well, picking up this Trek and Fisher from the original owner. They have not been ridden in 20 years, in need of a good cleaning and overhaul.

Gary Fisher Pro Caliber, I believe it's a 1987 or 88.

Also snagged these mtb pants at a garage sale, tags still attached on one of them.

You might not want to mention pants and snagged in the same sentence, haha. That GF is hot stuff, what a nice find! The 660 is no slouch either.

Picking up a very nice condition Peugeot Urban Express today, if everything goes to plan.

Ouch, good point.

I love those Pugs. Please post up some pics when you pick up.

This is why it pays to be known as "The Bike Guy"... friends hook you up with cool stuff at yard-sale prices:

Got the Urban Express. SUPER nice guy, who just happened to also have a blue Super LeTour 12.2 frame. He agreed to not sell it, and hold it for me. I don't have a stockpile of Shimano groups like I used to, hmm. I will have to look and see what I have. This UE is FINE though! Only 28 or so pounds according to the catalog scans I've seen. It might get the set of Nitto alloy bars in the garage, and some Mountech derailleurs.,,,,BD

This is the c&v thread, and this is a vintage bike, and I did save this bike. Pic is as found in a barn. In the process of cleaning it up, and its coming along really nice.

Very nice!

Bikedued 05-04-14 08:22 PM

You know what the sad part is? A day or so after I committed to buying this one, an equally nice Canyon Express in the same frame size popped up. If it's still around later in the week, I may have to do it. Just to say I waited, lol!

I now see that it's not there anymore. Crisis averted.:-)
