FWIW it looks like an '89 I had. Mine was a city wide cleanup save. I sold it, just a tad to tall for me, but those wheels are built to carry the wieght of two large riders.

Did they just stamp a million of them when they started the run or something? It's stamped 3487. It defintely is an 83, too many braze ons to be a 78. It's never been rebuilt or repainted, it's too clean. The 77 badges weren't the round black and red, that listed the model name. Or were they? Maybe a miss stamped batch of badges that day?,,,,BD

I'm a little foggy on Schwinn roadbikes between 1980 to about 85.....

Aren't we all. :p

It could be a warranty frame with an '87 assembly date.

I think the '80s SS had the name in the badge. The '70s were round, but fairly generic, IIRC.

Pulled this ugly GT road 6061 frame outta the dumpster today, anyone who thinks aluminum might be lighter than steel should pick up this boat anchor! Ugh at least its my size.. however I think this triple triangle design is so grotesque I cant see myself building it up!

I was bidding on a steel GT Force on eBay a while bike. It was white, and pretty.
6061 Aluminum isn't really a high-end or light alumninum in my book. Especially considering most x-mart bikes are made of it.

True! Still waiting for that day when I can pull a nice 2 and a half pound aluminum frameset from the dumpster though!

HSean 04-12-09 04:12 PM

Norco, yay

I figured i'd post this, I found it on the curb with other things, the other day and just cleaned it, I wonder how old it is.

Are you sure there is no kiddy out there cryin coz a nasty man took his bike ? lol

Skylar 04-12-09 05:40 PM

My weekend find. Early 80's Raleigh Marathon. Previous owner took decent care of it, it needs a bath, it needs a brooks, and it needs a nice crank to go with the Suntour bar-ends it came with. This will keep its' gearing.

Nah it wasn't ridable when I found it, it was rust colored parts, dead white tires, basicly very ugly. lol I cleaned it up.

Picked up this Sport Tourer frame (my size :)) and a bunch of low-end parts for $80. It is missing a headbage. Anyone got one to trade/sell? I really like the blue of this frame. I did not get a look at the serial number. Any guess as to model year? I have only seen one other in this color.

This was a pleasant surprise. I've become interested trying a Univega having learned about the brand researching my Bertoni bikes....so, this one came along. I thought it would probably be a frame donor for a retro/modern build, but it turns out it it's really in great shape...in fact, the annodizing isn't even worn off the sides of the rims. It has the full Suntour Sprint group (is that a good thing?....it works fine, fwiw) and I happened to notice from one of the (few) nicks in the paint that the entire frame is chromed under the paint....cool.

Nice. I have the same bike, probably one size smaller, on my stand right now. just rebuilt the BB and hubs. The Suntour Perfect freewheels seems pretty nice. Mine didn't come with bar ends, but a previous owner did upgrade to a 105 rear derailleur.

I bet that Brooks is nice on the Marathon!

Actually IMHO the used bike market in the Boise area is quite competitive. I feel very fortunate to have scored the fleet that I have. I also have 2 Hard Rocks, a Schwinn High Plains, and a coulple of 24" Diamondback mountain bikes (I still have four young teens at home, so most of the bikes get used).
My bigest problem now is that my loving Wife (and I really mean that) has laid down the law "No more bikes until you sell some!"

Thanks for the responses!
Chris

Boise CL has nice stuff, but remember it would probably be smaller if so many weren't 4 kids bike for 20 dollars every third post and there because nobody wants to buy their old TVs :)

Here's the black 83 SS.. I didn't have any tan hoods, or black for that matter. The red doesn't look that bad really, and I really like the tan tape for some reason. I may go for the black hoods if they have them. The badge number was 3482, the tail of the two was very light, and in the black portion of the badge. VERY hard to see. This was a quick clean/lube/tires. A very clean bike, probably a garage queen, by the looks of the original hoods. They looked like lizard skin, lol.,,,,BD

As found.... Saturday at 7 pm.

I saw one on the 'bay last night, looking into peoples' Schwinn recommendations.

Here
it is.

HSean 04-13-09 08:37 PM

I got these two, This road bike is something i've never heard of before, proberly some old canadian tire bike or something lol and the mountain bike aint so vintage but it was abandoned in my yard then the owner said keep it, it has many issues! lol The mixte might be only good for melting down though, If you look at it from the front youd see why, I think it's the forks, somethings really bent, sorry for the crappy pics.

The thrift store leg work has finally paid off. I picked up an '85 (i think) Raleigh Pursuit for $9.99. 502 made in Taiwan tubing and in pretty rough shape, but it will clean up nicely.

Skylar 04-14-09 08:51 PM

Hot, and the nice price.

Bikedued 04-14-09 09:35 PM

Update of the SS. The black hoods look more "dignified" IMHO. A really nice bike, and now that my scale is working again weighs in at 22.9 pounds as it sits.,,,,BD:D

$68 Voyageur II. Was described as having been garaged for years. Will be making its way to me and arriving late next week, most likely.

Love the look of that frame! Black bikes look so good. I thought you posted my old Moto there for a minute. The hoods look much better now too.

Bikedued 04-15-09 05:15 PM

I like it too. thanks! Rides nice!! I'm riding it to work tomorrow, but of course that means a backpack. That takes a little of the fun out of it. All my "ride to work" bikes have racks on them.

I've become a big fan of black bikes as well. The black hoods do give it a more refined look. Actually, even then doing the bars in black works, one of the few cases where the same color for hoods/saddle/paint/bar tape seems to actually be in good taste.

ohjonnybegoode 04-15-09 06:20 PM

A LeTour score...a 1988 and a 1995 - $40 for both...the pics are taken from the wrong side, but, they're both in really good shape....:)
