Will do, once I ride off the Cobb webs and shine the Patina. ;)

Terrible shot but for 10$ I got what appears to be a ~1980 Nishiki International. I figured I was up due to the bar end shifters but the drivetrain is also 100% suntour cyclone:

Hello all. Here is my catch of the day. Been sitting on it for close to 20 years. Bought it for $40 out of a barn where I was doing some work.
I believe it to be a 1971-ish PX10. Yes I have the crank, pedals & front derailleur. I truly hope to get it into like new condition ...I will need help! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...pssrvac53i.jpg |
got a bike for $50 yesterday. was shopping, ideally, for something newer, that costs 5 times more than that (used) but maybe I'll ride this as is for a while. this is a Schwinn Crisscross

1960s Dawes Galaxy from Craigslist. Not 100% sure I'll keep it, but I'm beginning to lean that way. The seatpost came out without any problem, which is always a good sign. I don't think the fork is bent. The appearance is just a side effect of the angle and bad background. It looks straight with a more direct view.

Rode a distance today to give a friend an MTB bar and stem. On the way home I saw a Speciallized Rock Hopper set out by the curb and leaning against a metal shelving unit. I knocked on the door of the house and asked the owner if the bicycle was out for garbage. He said yes it was and that they had lost the key to the CCM U-lock that through the frame and rear wheel. I took the bike home. I spent two minutes with a Dremel tool and thick cut-off disc and had the lock off. All the bicycle needed was air in the tires.
It's a 21-speed Alivio equipped bicycle and everything works fine. It has double butted tubing and another sticker that says Designed in California and made in Taiwan. His wife had lost interest in bicycling and the bicycle sat for years. After i pumped up the tires I took the bicycle for a ride and everything on it works well and the shifting needs no adjusting at all. Sometimes you just get really lucky. Here are ten images of the bicycle as it looked when it wqas given to me other than me putting the air in the tires prior to taking the images of it. http://i1383.photobucket.com/albums/...psywgdhotq.jpg http://i1383.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8gtyi6pt.jpg http://i1383.photobucket.com/albums/...psplrkkuqu.jpg http://i1383.photobucket.com/albums/...psj5zgfmjz.jpg http://i1383.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5h5juuig.jpg http://i1383.photobucket.com/albums/...psdvlgjtnf.jpg http://i1383.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9kywzgqf.jpg http://i1383.photobucket.com/albums/...psn4s6nma5.jpg http://i1383.photobucket.com/albums/...psllm0lzwl.jpg http://i1383.photobucket.com/albums/...pssxqoa72p.jpg Cheers |
First a story. This last year my 85 or 86 Giant Rincon which only has maybe 2500 miles on it and always had issues with the Shimano XT derailleurs finally took a semi dump, yes I could fix it but I'm so tired of screwing with it, and replacing all the derailleurs to modern XT would cost more money than I want to put into the 35 pound tank. It got really frustrating after I went off road with it a campground I couldn't power up a hill without it shifting automatically. So I took it home pondering what to do with it. Then yesterday a friend offered me his Iron Horse Maverick aluminum bike for free without even knowing I had issues with my Giant, so I took his bike since he rarely rode it and for some reason liked his Walmart Next bike better?? Since he's not into bikes I had an impossible time trying to convince him that his Iron Horse was a better bike, so I took his bike. Weird, but maybe not, I've given so many bikes away to friends and neighbors over the years I guess it was my turn to receive one since I had a minor need for a mountain bike. It does need some things replaced but overall it's in great shape, it might cost me roughly $80 and some elbow grease.

Picked this up today for the 105 group, to bad the middle top tube cable guide is gone. It's actually a pretty nice frame.

$40 rummage sale find. It's cleaning up better than I thought. I have everything that needs replaced except 105 brake levers.

Not from the dump and not that old either (2011 Diamondback Lustre2) but a woman gave this for free. Pretty good condition. Will give it a good inspection and flip it.

picked up an old late 80's giant iguana for free from a friend moving. both wheels where in the trash before i left. took the rest of the bike apart and tossed most of the components. replaced bottom bracket and headset bearings. keeping the frame, fork, crank arms and 44t chain wring I built up a fixed with spare parts I had around. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=512037 no $ spent just a couple hours. Fixed with orange wheels sat around collecting dust. New build for dedicated indoor trainer. Bought a 6 speed shifter. 1x6 speed now. Not bad on the trainer http://imgur.com/a/cqdQz |

Truly saved from the dump, as in, purchased today for small $ from a recycling company. As in, they put it on a scale and weighed it for scrap before giving me a price. I figure the STX parts are worth it, especially considering the nasty dent in the top tube! Waiting to see if I can de-gunkify the shifters - if so, then everything will work! |
Lambert, exact year not yet determined. Still has the Death Fork but the stem, saddle and rear derailleur are not original. It has a pretty nice Cinelli stem on it.

Not really mine, although I went to get it. While arranging the Raleigh Sports frameset acquistion for 3speedslow he must have been trolling my local CL and found this, and decided he could not live without it. Really cheap and really incomplete, I'd seen the ad before and pretty much ignored it. Took forever to hook up with the seller who, in truth, probably could have been more of a flake than he turned out to be.
This old bike boom Falcon is a steel-framed Eddy Merckx ("Eddie" in the ad, of course) with stamped dropouts and basic components that are not in great shape. The frame's okay and that's what matters. I'll be shipping this off in a few days and 3speedslow will have his next project. It's fun spending other people's money. Attachment 543677 |
Winning bid of a whopping $46 on an auction site. Looks really clean, don't know anything about Nashbar road bikes. Better pics after I pick it up.

I might be slightly premature in declaring this one "saved from the dump" but thanks to some outstanding steel bending by gugie it's starting to show signs of life.
https://c5.staticflickr.com/6/5533/3...721ce0f6_b.jpg I've mentioned this frame a few times before, but I generally feared it was a lost cause. At some point in its history it underwent a pretty bad front end collision. The top and down tubes had small bulges and the fork was all kinds of bent and twisted. I bought from a guy on CL for $20 and let it sit in my garage for a while. Then last week gugie was kind enough to offer to take a look at it. A day later I got it back with fairly straight tubes. I slapped on a bunch of sloppy touch up paint, and started putting it together tonight. The head tube angle is a bit steeper than it used to be, but I have high hopes for it. I wanted low trail anyway. :thumb: |
Edit:
Mercier found on corner today. Cool campy hubs, useable Brooks!!, Stronglight crank. I think orig came with centerpulls, but I know nothing. http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/...psit0tvwdl.jpg Maybe a Mercier 100? Lyotard pedals, Mavic rims, huret I'm thinking original owner upgraded this entry-level bike with the Brooks, Campy, side-pull brakes . . . |
Nice pick, Gitane?

Nice!
