saving the planet, one bike at a time.

Not exactly a save .........
...... I bought a (very dirty and greasy) 1987 Bianchi Sport SX from the local co-op for $25. Couldn't pass it up even though it's only a 19" frame. According to the catalog, it has all original components except the bar wrap, and only missing one pedal and the chain. All Alpha 5000 groupset including Diacompe brakes, Sansin hubs, Suntour 6 sp freewheel, Suntour index/friction shifters, Suntour FD and RD, and Sugino 52 / 42 crankset. Made in Japan with Tange DB frame, Sella Italia saddle, Araya 700c anodized rims, and

With this great find, I plan to do a complete rehab; teardown, clean, and lube. |
Good score on project..
Answered posting on Craigslist showing the Peugeot road frame for sale, with ruddy wheels included with it. Went and viewed it, saw it in nice shape and clean, no chips, hacks or rust. Snapped it up. Researched it and learned it's a sleek model from 1986 brochure. Used Campy Victory crankset, and I never saw its Modolo black brakes before. Seller told of odd size seat post it uses. Hoping to build it to original spec as close as possible. Might Shimano group work better on it, like 105 or Veloce? Thoughts welcomed, thanks.

https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...913c761b83.jpg I'd strip them down, get the black off, maybe sand some of the worst scuffing a bit and clean up for a killer build of some sort. |
ok, here are several bikes i took sympathy on and brought home from the metal scrap pile. feel free to ask any specific questions.
they are: 1) Kona AA Mountain Shock 2) Trek 800 3) Raleigh Super Course 4) Bottecchia (model unknown) 5) Miyata (model unknown) 6) Bianchi Forza (on a Italian made Performance Peak Trainer) https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...2e41b0e40.jpeg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...323eaa588.jpeg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...2eceee453.jpeg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...65ee54c63.jpeg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...1b3a4052a.jpeg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...3c8ecff2d.jpeg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...ced3b6e25.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...53da51f89.jpeg |
Given the current state of my bike "herd" I shouldn't even be asking but, what are your plans for this one?

Something obscene about the idea of people scraping those above bikes. I get some may well be past saving but I'm betting most aren't.
My 1st post on this thread. Nobody ever gives me the type of goodies we see on here😭. Until now. 🤗😀👍 Man was cleaning out dad's old stuff. Yesterday I got a Brooks Pro - no photo and today I got the below... https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...be36dd4580.jpg 3TTT bars still have a $119 price tag. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...98967248da.jpg A nice little pile, also cables and chains https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...9f6be8c2ca.jpg Have to ID these shifters as I have zero knowledge of anything except down tube shifters. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...de7abd37b2.jpg 105 triple cranks with NOS bb cartridge iirc it's 5500(?) https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...7347e264e7.jpg RSX drive side cranks and FD. Believe FD is NOS. There's a long cage Rd as well. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...3d326c1095.jpg Unknown model or speeds. |
Those shifters are almost certainly 3x7 speed, particularly looking at the RX100/RSX parts there too. Possibly 8 speed. Nice haul!

Stopped by West End bikes since they are moving 1 block south of where they are soon. Mark the owner was there and saw the silver Merz I rode in, said "cool bike", took some pics and said "gotta send this to a couple of people". He has a Merz tandem hanging above the counter and I asked if it was going to be making the move as it's on loan. He said he wasn't sure and said he has several bikes that may need to go, then he says "I have an old Stumpy in the basement that may end up on the scrap heap, you should take it home." We went downstairs, looked at it then I went home and got my car, went back and got.

'74 "Raliegh" Professional that popped up on Offerup a few weeks ago. Looks to be a Mk IV. Not sure if the misspelling or distance from civilization kept it from selling sooner, but it's mine now. All original with the exception of the Suntour barcons and clinchers. Original NR/AVA tubular rear wheel was also scored.
