Nice find!

Dropping a file cabinet on it probably wouldn’t have an impact! I had a 1987 one of these with 105 instead of 600. It was a beast. You could remove the rear wheel and jump up and down on the rear triangle without bending anything. Stiff, fast, fun to ride around town. Enjoy!

Imagine, in the *steel* pile!

Frankly, I'm questioning if it is real, but if not, at least it is mostly original. Shimano 600 except the rear wheel and derailleur. Tires are darn skinny 23s on darn skinny rims. And speaking of darn skinny, so are those handlebars.

I'm thinking I will put a taller stem and perhaps my mustache bars on it and zip around and see what a fancy race bike from the 80s feels like.

That be real. Careful changing that brake housing. Those plastic guides break apart pretty easy. Maybe a little lube before you pull it.

I guess this belongs here too. I brought this home from the transfer station two weeks ago before our vacation. Needs some attention but everything seems to work as designed. Not even remotely my size…

Definitely a robust frame! Seems super rugged, even compared to my Al mountain bike. I took a bit of a tooth-rattling ride around the block...not sure I can really generate an opinion yet. I like the short TT, but it is unfortunate that the frame seems quite limited in tire size. I think I might be able to get a 25mm in there, but nothing more. Unless I remove the FD, then maybe a 28?

I was able to get them off without much difficulty, although I did lube and gently wiggle as time had fused the tape and plastic to the bars.

Picked up this Huissoon today.

Jaap Huissoon was a pro rider who started building bikes in the early seventies. A small volume builder, but his bikes were well-revered by the local racing community. Jaap passed away in 2018, but the shop still exists: Huissoon Sport.

Columbus Max tubing, Campagnolo Daytona parts and a non-matching set of wheels.

A down trodden Rockhopper appears to be in its original parting. I am so glad this has the hardnose, if it was a rockshok I would have let it pass to the big recycling center in the sky.https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...3a53798f7d.jpgand a moderately used Nouva Alloro will get a cleansing. This appears to be original not counting barwrap and tires.

It's a "Catch of the Day" although it's got a bit of a "Saved from the Dump" look to it. Was listed very local to me, couldn't resist? I believe it is an '87? Full XT group

Biplane fork crowns look so cool.

Idk if they’re technically better than unicrown, but they look good.

They were for a long time, the fugly unibrow forks helped usher in the cookie cutter crap scourge that followed and plagues us more and more by the day. :50:

They are probably cheaper, better, stronger, blah, blah, blah but we got along without them for a long time. :twitchy:

Nice vintage mtb, some minor touch ups on the fork , top tube and seat stays and it should be fine. I would however change the rims and tires.

My best deal recently, maybe ever is this tool lot I won at an auction this week. These were in a box with some old Bell cable kits, tubes and misc. I would have paid the $6 for just that stuff, but there must not have been anyone watching that knew what these are.

Schwinn Crosscut

I found this 1990 Schwinn Crosscut for $39 in a charity thrift shop. It appears to have most of the original bits except for the rear wheel and the seat. That the rear wheel has been replaced is something I wish I knew the story on. Seems like front wheels are easier to steal or taco. But anyway, the derailleurs seem in good shape and I’m cautiously optimistic about the paint. There aren’t a lot of nicks so I’m hoping to be able to rub it out, touch it up, and clear coat it. My thinking here in early days is to put drops and brifters on it with an 8-speed cassette and some 38mm-ish all weather tires. But I have a while to think about it because I’m up to my neck in outdoor summer projects for now . . .

Here's my latest catch! A Concorde Gavina from around 1988. I payed 73 usd for it. Columbus SL frame with number plate holder. Most of the parts are Campagnolo chorus except for the brake levers and hubs which the previous owner removed.

Picked up this Trek 950 mountain bike yesterday for $10 ($6.00 US) Missing a front wheel and the rear XT derailleur is slogged out but the frame is sound and a good larger size.
I'll swap parts to it from another mountain bike I have that's a heavy plain gauge frame and see how it rides. Lugs! Made in USA! 1993 from what I can see. 30 years young.

I still routinely kick myself for selling my c.1990 Trek 950 in this size. I suspect you will love this one!
