That post is up fairly high. I'd soak and get a couple of large wrenches on it.

AdventureManCO That Allez is a great find! I love mine. Don’t dump all the Huffy parts on it…

Cycles Vanqueur
Found a Vainqueur made in Portugal at the scrap yard today.

I have the post end in a vise right now with the bike upside down. I twisted back and forth as much as I was comfortable with, and no budgie. Now, due to the fact that the dust cap is frozen, I haven't yet pulled the cranks. Once I do, I'm debating...penetrating oil? Ammonia? Or full blast...lye? Used lye before, totally comfortable with it. Right now, it is sort of my go-to at the moment, simply because it means I bypass yanking and twisting more on the frame. |
Saw this listed locally for $50, dropped everything and rushed out to score it.
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...f47feb6ba.jpeg But it turned out to be their cheapest model. The base is plastic as is the end cap on the barrel. I am guessing this is from before they got bought out by the guy from Zipp. My other SIlca track pump from the 80s is all metal... Planning to replace the pump head with a Tanaka (on sale at Soma for $25) and send it off to college with my daughter this fall. |

Sort of relevant, today I picked up a used steam cleaner. I tried it out on a grungy scrapyard crankset and it did a nice job clearing off the dirt and grease. I have tried cleaning aluminum components with an ultrasonic cleaner and don't like what it does to anodizing.

I think that there are different tips I can get with little brushes, but with just the nozzle its sort of like sandblasting with steam. Its pretty effective up close, but the "blast zone" is about the size of a pencil eraser, so its kind of a detail tool. It softens up a large area that can be wiped off, so I think I'll have to play with it a bit to see what it does best. |
Had been sitting in a garage, not ridden for years.
https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...fb392173f7.jpg Seatpost is stuck, trying what worked on my MB-2: Bike upside down https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...8f8b2e51cf.jpg PB Blaster through the bottle boss holes - We will see how it works this time? https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...6125468304.jpg |
Like many here, I have become "that guy". My friend just moved and called me up "I have a couple of bikes, you want em?" Like the fool that I am "sure". One was a beat and ugly fixie with no seat, another friend who also knows me as "that guy" happened to call and say his car was broken, so I put a seat on it, pupped up the tires and it is now his, bent handle bars and all! The second one is slightly better, but I really did not need another project.
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...37ef6b418c.jpg crusty and dusty, but it is all there, not sure what i am going to do with this one? |
No love for English 3 speeds? 69' Hercules in free pile. Lots of patina but everything works. Will start with a saddle. Anyone local interested before I get into it? San Francisco/east bay.

Found a couple today in a dumpster only a 100 or so feet from my home hard to believe but in the past few years I have found a dozen fairly nice in the trash in the trailer park were I live. Todays finds are a Specialized with a really nice hard frame and a Moungogoos power climber. I figure I can make a decent bike our of the two in a hour or so and ride it a bit and donate it. I will probably loose the silly over sized neck if anyone is interested PM me.

This followed me home yesterday.

1986 Cannondale SR500
I pulled this out of the steel pile before someone dropped a file cabinet on it:
https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...0b11635b4a.png Imagine, in the *steel* pile! Frankly, I'm questioning if it is real, but if not, at least it is mostly original. Shimano 600 except the rear wheel and derailleur. Tires are darn skinny 23s on darn skinny rims. And speaking of darn skinny, so are those handlebars. I'm thinking I will put a taller stem and perhaps my mustache bars on it and zip around and see what a fancy race bike from the 80s feels like. |
I actually had to travel some and pay some for this one, but I was looking for some low mileage RX100 bits so this is firmly in the did ok column.
The frame measures at 20 3/8" but I'd call it a 19 1/2" Top tube is 20 1/2" C-C This is the first time I've seen one of these up close, and it has some pretty good tire clearance. I'd guess 35mm would be practical, and 38mm might work as a party trick. Other bit of trivia: the drop outs are spaced at 135mm. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...4993f57f6d.jpg |
