Well you just have to pick up a $30 1987 Schwinn Traveler when it is in this condition. A few scrapes here and there, but overall really nice.

Near complete catch..

Saw a Bianchi Sport SX 1987? posted, I journeyed out to Davis Square to see. All there except the wheels; picked up pair of Weinmann LP 19 in decent shape; had them trued at Broadway Bicycle School, Cambridge after good cleaning; added Vittoria Zaffiro tires; pedals stuck on arms and won't budge! Any advice suggestions very helpful. Ideas?

Don't laugh at the exposed pedal axles! Removed platforms to freeze with dry ice hoping to shrink to loosen them. 😅

Love the color. Don't forget: the pedal on the left is reverse thread.

mitchito I need to start hanging around your LBS!! The Schwinn and the Pinarello(!!??) are highly desired so if you off-load those you would have PLENTY of coin to freshen up the Peugeot.

Local city wide garage sales produced some free pile gems.

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...afd1dea816.jpg
Gitane Inter Club with front end damage...
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...9a247cf755.jpg
And a 84' Schwinn Sierra that has been spray painted. Original components except for the rear XT replacement...whch is a good thing.

It's been a long dry spell for the total scrounge, but this morning after dropping my kid off at school, I saw this Kuwahara Shasta leaning against some garbage cans down the street from my house. Interesting bike. Deore, but unfortunately the crank and pedals have been replaced. Lots of branding on the individual parts: K on the Strong seatpost; K on the Nitto stem; Kuwahara headset. Not to mention some cool frame details. Just a little different. I was happy to find it, and even happier when the bench vise was holding the seatpost, and I was holding the frame!

I don't think that the Nitto Dirt Riser is all that rare, but it is cool that Kuwahara spec'd a nice, name-brand stem just to paint it red and put their own name brand on it!

49c? I should've gone shopping where you shop. Just paid $10 a pair for those.

$25 Bianchi Squadra in Electric Rose. Score. Couldn’t pass it up. It’s in my size and in reasonable restorable condition. I’m new so no pic post allowed.

Specialized Globe Tour 1

Found this in a garbage pile with 3 other bikes outside my apartment building. Caught my interest for some reason so I rolled it in beside my car and surveyed the mess. Most of the cables had been pulled from there mounts and one of the front fender bolts had the head broken off. The bike was completely incased with many years of parkade cement dust. Pumped up the tires and it sat for a month while I was busy with my other bikes. Last week I attempted to see what I had.
My guess is this was bought in 2011 driven once or twice and then left to gather dust. Replaced the broken fender bolt and voila a brand new 12 year old bike. Not my type of bike but definitely enjoyed cruising around the city.

1985? Fisher Montare

And then today:

1984 Univega Gran Turismo in my size!

You can 't pass up a Fisher MountainBikes Montare, in your size, for $20. And you also can't pass up a mid 80's Japanese touring bike, in your size, also for $20. You just can't. Try it and see, I dare you...

bark_eater 06-01-23 10:55 AM

Did pretty good at the scrapyard this morning. There was a Rock Hopper and a Schwinn World Tourist sticking out of the pile. Both frames where damaged, but I got some parts off, And.... there was a Park PCS workstand! My cup runith over..

P.S. The Suntour Perfect freewheel came off the hub easy enough. The hub didn't survive, but it was a steel cheapie with a bent axle, but I did salvage a nice set of cones.

Scored this Worldrider Sigma racer from the bike pile at the recycling center.
Barely used by the look of the tires, chainrings and chain. Full Shimano 600 groupset that predates indexing and before Shimano lost their mind...
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...80ed9f7af7.jpg
Interestingly, Worldrider bicycles were built about 15 km from where I live in New Zealand

I like that bike! Looks practical. Integrated rack too. Aluminum frame steel fork I'd guess?

bikemig 06-03-23 02:16 PM

Paid $80 for this early 80s Miyata 310. Not a screaming deal but the bike is in terrific shape with what look to be all original parts and good tires. It won't be much work to get it on the road for my nephew.

Had it out for a 50 km ride the other day, not fast but slow down and enjoy the scenery.

Specialized Sequoia

Although not really on the way to the dump, it was clearly being ignored and neglected. Small (47cm) frame size 1982 Sequoia complete and original with the exception of the bars and brake levers. A bit of rust on some fasteners, but nothing that a quick dip in Evaporust won’t fix.
