I’m going to rehab the 1973 Continental. It’s the bike that drew me to the junk bike sale. I couldn’t resist the Sunset Orange and being big enough for me.
The seller was selling bikes in groups of 5 and wouldn’t allow a mix and match. So there are 2 that didn’t make it into the photo shoot and will go to the local co-op. The 1988 World Sport, I don’t know yet. The headset feels funky (stiff/sticky). But would be easy to make road worthy. As long as it’s just a basic service. The 1985 Peugeot has a bent wheel and bent fork. I want to save it due to my recent foray into French bikes. But even road worthy I’d have a hard time giving it away. Mind how you go there young feller. It may not be long before ye receive the ultimatum from Mrs. Idaho - "It's either me or those (*&% bikes!" --- BTW the azurene leone rampante looks to be a P6 or P8 sort of machine and may exhibit a CH bottom bracket ----- |

Doesn't really matter, I'll be jealous of you with it anyway, whatever color it is. Unless hills are involved. :) |

She noticed the bent fork on the Pug right away once I showed her my recent score. There was an orange Batavus mixte in another group that I would’ve swapped the Pug for. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...21cc1211d.jpeg |

ID = Idaho CH = Schweiz --- https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...21cc1211d.jpeg did seller mention source for all the machines they were selling wondering if from an auction, such as held sometimes by police departments --- the mixte certainly looks marrone to my eye tip from an old guy - "never argue with a lady regarding the correct name for a colour, especially if you wish to retain your cranium in its present locus." "yes, dear." be ever the best course of action...;) ----- |

I aired up the tires, oiled the chain, cogs, derailleurs, visible cable (but not the rim) and went for a pedal. It functions as a bicycle! It shifts and stops. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...baf46d57f.jpeg |

Serial number decode of “MJ” says December ‘73. Cables and pads ordered via the bay. If I could find the right color bar tape I’d get some of that as well. I swear it’s the same color of the paint. But I can only find brown or a brighter orange that gets it close. Plenty of Hunt Wilde tape on the bay to choose from.
The Fizik Honey doesn't look far off. |
Those world sports are nice bikes, especially the later ones. Excellent commuter possibilities.

You are going to make a lot more money then what you paid for them. A lot of old farts had those bikes as kids, so the interest has gone up on them, best to get rid of them ASAP before the old farts die off and they younger generation won't have a clue about them, and since the younger generation never rode those as kids the interest will be zero! |

Not classic or vintage but saved. Crank is loose but I think it's fixable. Needs a new rear tire and chain looks rough. I'll check stretch and go from there.

Mostly catalog stock ~'73 Motobecane Grand Record. Unfortunately, the Brooks Professional is destroyed. Fortunately, all the Campagnolo bits and the Specialites TA crankset are there. Unfortunately, much of the hardware is rusty. Fortunately, the seatpost and stem are not stuck. In a "yeah, right, sure, here hold my beer" moment, I actually aired up the [extremely dry rotted, turning to dust] tires and rode it up and down the driveway a couple times. Everything got a heavy dose of penetrant, and it can just hang in the basement until.....Clunker Challenge time perhaps? https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...a9a3cad0_k.jpg |

1981 Fuji S12-S Mixte
4 Attachment(s)
A while back I posted a picture of a Fuji frame that I found in the barn of a guy who fixes of bikes, and I just got it back from him yesterday. He tried to get parts from his stockpile as close to the original as he could, but he couldn't find a triple crankset that would work, so I've got a double up front, and only 5 gears in the back, compared to the 18 it once had - a problem I'll be working to fix. It also has a scrape down the non-drive side top tube that has some rust that I'll be working on.
The orginal crankest was a Sugino Maxy 2D 36 x 44 x 53T with 170mm cranks, and the rear casset was a Suntour Mighty-6 (14, 16, 19, 22, 26, 30T) - if anyone has a line on how to find those or equivalents, I would be in your debt! Also: I looked up the serial number on the bottom bracket in the Fuji database to find out what year it was, and it indicates that it was made in October of 1980, but the 18-speed wasn't available until 1981, nor was the steel blue paint. I guess that makes sense? |

An October 1980 build date would be for the 1981 model year. The manufacturers liked to have the new models in the shops for the Christmas buying rush, so they had to start building a few months early.

jemaleddin There was a triple Motobecane crank set on eBay just recently. And a moderately good price for that rare a part. I have messed with a Moto Super Mirage, now an 18 gear 6/3. Obviously not the best gear ratios but with a little practice the bike is a pleasure that I am setting up for a touring bike. Good luck with your hunt.
