I'm building up a TdF in that red color and will post pix soon.

conflicting decals: it says both TdF and "SC" which could mean a Super Course if those are Campy DOs (the RD seems to be a Nuovo Record)...in any case I think a very nice score!

I forgot all about this thread but a few months ago a found a nearly complete 9-spd Terry in the free bin of our local 'sports recycler' shop. I've been pretty good about not picking up projects any more but I couldn't pass this one up. I'll post pics soon, or maybe I'll wait until it's done, which could be years at my current rate of getting bikes completed.....

Too Tall Trek 950

The moratorium has been holding, but I had a moment of weakness and brought home a Trek 950. Its a size bigger than the sellers measurements, and technically too big, but I think I'll ride it for a bit.

I went to the Bowling Green Bike Swap today and traded an old balloon tire bike and some cash for a Raleigh 20. I've wanted one for a long time and finally it happened. The bike is in pretty good condition, I was riding it around the show grounds before I came home.

The R20 is a great bike! Your machine is in great condition. I enjoy owning one myself, that same colour.

I would do the same trade as you did in a heartbeat!

Greetings Bike Forum readers,
I swooped on this Miyata SevenTen road bike recently, and for the cost of coffee and donuts.
Looked to be size that would fit me so I acquired it.
Looks like it spent time exposed to the elements in the shed or under a tarp in the guy's backyard.
Steel surfaces rusty but finish on the frame decent.
Serial number on bottom of crankshaft tube reads: M048501
Does anyone on the Forum know how to date the bike from the number?
I'll assume it dates from the mid-1980s.
Looks to be better quality components on it.
I installed those Araya 27" wheels coz it didn't come with wheels but looks like it uses 700 size.
Lots of cleaning to do on it.
This website is great, and helpful as well!
Ride on, people!

Congratulations on your find. Miyatas are well respected around here. Per the Asian Serial Number Guide it was built in 1984. This 1985 Miyata Catalog confirms it is a 1985 model. Miyata didn't use a month designator in their serial numbers, so sometimes a bike built later in the year will have the following years specs.

Photos can be deceiving, but it looks like your fork may have been bent backwards in a collision.

I noticed this odd quirk on other bike photos where the fork looks a tad bent in, but then when the owners report that it isn't, makes you understand that somehow the photos are probably most of the time making forks look bent. Not sure why photos are doing that, could be the an optical illusion too that a camera can't perhaps make the connection with the fork and the triangle shaped frame so it throws off the fork a bit.

It might be that the front wheel is turned slightly, not perfectly aligned with the frame, changing the angle of it relative to the head tube in the photo.

Really trying to not find bikes, at least until the tarp of shame is gone... It's a Fuji Finest though... Who could say no... It's still got the crank with one ring and the long cage Crane is a nice touch. I'm breaking this down and getting it into dry storage ASAP. I already have a complete but very rusty example in the attic, but I'm not commiting to a restoration...

That's a great score and not an easy one to find. I have been looking for a similar example foor quite a while.....good luck with the build.
Best, Ben

On my 87 Black Lightning I don't think I could run a rear tire bigger than 28mm. The FD mount would hit first I think.

bark_eater 09-25-24 08:23 AM

A little rain snuck in and got the Fuji, which was of course soaked down with WD40. And luckily the scrap yard provided another bike stand, more suited to "don't ask, don't tell" kitchen projects.....

I can sympathize… my plastic shed of shame stares disapprovingly whenever I walk by.

Grabbed this after work, same people I got my mystery bike that turned out to be a '66 Raleigh Carlton from a few years ago.

NASHBAR 5000R, vintage unknown.
Cons: It's TINY, saddle is broken, paint is really beat up and the wheels don't match.
Pros: Tange double butted Chrome Moly frame ( probably just main tubes), RSX 3 X 7 crankset, derailleurs and brake calipers with Tourney 3 X 7 brifters and everything works. Tires have some wear but are still decent and no cracks, tubes hold air.
Not bad for $25.

By coincidence, I've been wondering about this for entirely different reasons.

How much trouble can I get in to by removing the FD? I never use the low front ring anyways. My FD is creeping all the time. Probably a combination of heavy FD spring, and worn friction shifter parts- the bike is getting close to the wrong side of five decades in age...

This Losa was offered to me for a nickel and a dime. I could not refuse and that wasn't my intention too.

You know you’re going to have to repaint it (maybe keeping it simple with monochrome and no new decals), replace the saddle, maybe put some compact drops on it, and make the day of someone on the smaller side. 😀

If I listened to the characters on here every bike I ever found had a bent fork. And the lines people place over your picture are amusing to convince you of such.

I have yet to have a potential buyer say my forks were bent. Only on here.

I am still upset with myself for flipping a perfect 750 fourteen years ago.....That looks really nice. I would have shared in that moment of weakness depending upon price.
