A coworker was clearing out his garage and offered me a BSO and a Huffy Cranbrook 24" wheels if I picked them up.

Today I invested 15 minutes of cleanup and Huffy looks new. My daughter rode it and commented how the seat squeaks.

The BSO is also in surprisingly nice shape and everything works, including the fork. I gave it a cleanup, lubed the cables/derailleur pivots, and adjusted the RD for better shifting. Both are listed for the rehome process.

My local bike shop has a few of these bikes as well. I didn't ask about them since they were busy. I've seen them listed on Auctions International.

Agreed. ;)

Yep, yep. There was also a small Police frame, that I pulled some parts off of as well. The compleat bike has a problem in that the crank arms have like zero clearance on the chainstay, so either the cranks were way over tightened on both arms or the bottom bracket is too short.

That combined with a partially stripped frame makes me think these trickled down to the scrap yard from an auction lot. There are no oficial markings or stickers on the frames so their maybe from a civilian source.

The Deore stuff came from a wrecked hand powered tricycle, the 105 from an aluminum Specialized Allez frame with no fork and the Cinelli stem, was just loose in a truck load of junk from the town dump.

The police chief rides a 3T Exploro Race Max in this video. That is one pricey police bike. Apparently the chief signs his own expense reports. I am quite sure that 3T does not make a "police edition", or at least it would read "Polizia".

Yeah, I remember the downtown bike cops. I don't think they're still active unfortunately.

I was wondering about the bike. Chief LeBeau did mention that they can buy a bunch of bikes and they are way less expensive than a cruiser. And Seth later mentions that Cheif LeBeau races.

I'd still take that as a huge plus. I think he is likely maintaining his bike and probably the rest of the fleet as well.

I took a chance on a bike this morning. This was the picture in the advertisement.

And this is what it turned out to be. 1999 Schwinn Circuit. I've not had a Reynolds 853 bike before.

CLASSY bikes! I remember seeing them at the Performance Bikes store and thinking that they were on the way back.
Contracted by the company that bridged between the bankruptcy management and the sale to Pacific.
I wonder who designed and built them.
My 1999 Schwinn Peloton. Reynolds 853 tube with Ultegra and DuraAce components.

I've seen a Madison SS, too!

We got our son a Madison for his first bike, Bombproof.com, great bike, first of many that got stolen after several years.

Some his fault, many not. :twitchy:

He rode the heck out of it. ;)

+1. Our pd finally reinstated the bike patrol; ours is a very small force, and they had staffing problems for a long time after COVID.

Bike cops are more a part of the community; they can't hide in their car, they're out meeting the people who live there. They're also less likely to develop a beer belly.

Found at a yard sale, it was filthy, with no pedals and a shredded seat. Bought it for parts then realized it was viable, took me a couple of hours to get it working. Then a couple more to get the index shifters working properly.... LOL.

You might want to check with the police department before fixing it up and riding it or selling it, because if it is stolen and someone who knows the bike, or the cops are looking for it, and you get caught riding it, you will have a lot of explaining to do that the cops may or may not believe you.

Agreed. It’s crazy that bike would be abandoned on the side or the road…

Picked this ‘83 Trek 520 up for $50. It’s pretty dirty and mostly stock, looks like it hasn’t been ridden in years. It seems to have Nitto Albatross bars, so that’s something. I actually think if I had waited, they were going to put it on the curb for free/:

Curb find, a barely used Wike child trailer. Just need to order a hitch. First grandchild is on the way, I’ll be ready next season!

It is, the tires still have the mold whiskers on them. It's very well built, and all the parts I need are available. Great quality.
