Sorry KRANZ, I meant the bottom bracket measurement. From a past post, someone had mentioned the bb measures 71mm and that this was an odd size if you decide to switch to cotterless.

Is this a measurement of the spindle from end to end? Also the ends are square instead of round so I can't fit my cottered cranks on there. And I don't know what cotterless cranks to buy to ensure good fit. Any suggestions?

Sheldon Brown has an excellent article on converting Raleigh bikes to cotterless cranks You can find it here Threading/interchangeability Issues for Older Raleigh Bicycles Its a good place to start.

I've done a number of conversions for Records, GPs, and SuperCourse and used the 68mm Shimano UN53 (or similar) with 122mm and 127 mm lengths. Phil Wood rings when necessary. Suntour/SR/APEX alloy cranks.
