Today's Projects

First, reconditioned rear wheel for the Mondia, this is a Record High flange on a Mavic rim. Replaced bearings (cones and races look wonderful..), polished, and painted flange cutouts. Looking pretty good for a 37 year old wheel. Mondia is almost done now.

A little messy up close in spots, might need another coat if I feel obsessive:

Then, take one nice original Fuji S12-2 (18) Mixte, let it sit in your garage for 8 months, then get a burst of energy with the parts one has accumulated. It looked like this to begin with:

With a little stroking, voila, city bike. Might not be obvious in pics, but the housings are blingy braided steel wrapped in clear plastic:

Cool vintage Shimano M-700 thumbies paired with current production Shimano BL-R440 brake levers:

The view from the cockpit, VO handlebars:

More to come on this one, have a set of fenders to install, maybe a wider sprung saddle more suitable for upright riding. This is going to be my wife's commuter. It was a blast to ride when adjusting/testing.

Vry nice work on the wheel! What is the paint you used for the yellow highlights? I think I want to do that!

I must confess, the yellow paint is just some "Do It Best" "premium enamel" from the local hardware store. Does the job, it seems.

Nobody likes the mixte? sniff, sniff.... This is actually a pretty good bike as mixtes go - cromoly, forged dropouts.

I refuse to give any compliments to people that post non-driveside pictures.

Bikes: I used to have many. And I Will again.

Pretty high flange!!

Oh plenty love for the mixte too.
I like mixtes, and was considering a similar build as your's. I like those bars. My wife likes a beach cruiser, but I feel a mixte would be more responsive and lighter. With a wide set of bars, you get the same laid back riding position.

Fair enough, these were quick and dirty pics in the heat of wrenching.

I'm thinking this might be a good candidate for 650b conversion - I have some Suzue hi flange hubs that look pretty nice.

Bikes: Fuji Absolute of unknown age, Framed Gravier

i dig the mixte, i'm actually working on a similar build for my wife, mine is having a single thumbie and it's only gonna have a rear der, 5 speed setup. I've got an old mercier frame that i'm cleaning up. it's got a decent amount of rust, but i'm trying to conserve the paint as much as possible, it's a beutiful shade of metallic burgundy.
