Doing a flickr photo project for American History class. I need 4 photos, I can really use any photos that I can somehow link to my research(which doesn't need to be specific to the photo, so thats easy), but it would be most helpful if I could find a photo of some bikes from the late 1800's through 1950's, maybe an interesting picture of something more modern.

Or a picture actually from the early 1900's would be awesome, but one of the requirements is the photos must be unpublished, but we are allowed to use internet networks(friendslist on myspace et.) and communities(of which we are already members of) for help.

The theme is the use of a bicycles for utiliarian purposes, especially transportation. So photos capturing the aspest would be best. The older the better. I have one of a parking lot in amsterdam already that I am going to use for the modern photo.

Despite it being a US history class, it doesn't have to be focused on the US, so international is fine. If someone had a photo of villagers in say the far east using bikes, or at least a picture of the type of bike they might use, that would be a good one too.

EDIT: And I know this is longshot, especially since I think I saw it in the touring forum, but there was a website featuring the story of two women in the ..50's? who road their bikes from somewhere in the NE down the mississippi river, following a route that Hemmingway first charted. Anyone know what I am talking about?

I didn't want the photos, we have to have a certain number of primary and secondary sources.

coolwhip, I am sure you can find this stuff for yourself, do a google image search for petes sake. There should be gobs of pics out there that you can use...

There is, although technically I wouldn't be following the directions of the project concerning the source of the photos. But I thought this is the sort of thing a community like this existed for, and that perhaps some members might actually enjoy helping me out.

And I am more likely to find something specific to what I am hoping to find by asking here, just using all my resources.

OK, does posting on BF-C&V count as "published?" I hope not. Here is the 1892 Coventry (from England) I found at the dump in New London, NH. I know it is not complete, but this is how it looked right after I brought it home.

Pastor bob, have you ever considered restoring that? Or at least making it rideable again?

I sold the bike at an auction last April.

It would have been a challenge, expensive to restore, and the restoration deserved to be done well by a serious collector.

Several concerns kept me from doing anything except just a light cleaning in preparation for the auction. First, even if it was in a riding condition, it was way too small for me. Second, it weighed at least 60 lbs, so it would have been too heavy for my daughter or wife, and still probably too small. Third, it was a fixed gear with no brakes. Considering I live in the mountains, it would have been a challenge to ride in my area.

It really needed to go to a collector who could fully appreciate and restore this very early safety bicycle.

A 60LB fixie, eh?
