I just missed this one. I e-mailed but the ad is gone now and no reply.
Peugeot lightweight road (racing) bike (skinny glue-on tires!). Model PX-10, I think. The bike has a fairly tall frame (I am 6'2" with a 34" inseam and this bike fits me correctly). I think the bike cost about $600 back in the day. I have owned the bike since the early 80's, shortly after it was sold new. The bike has not been used in a long time, but is in excellent shape (stored indoors, not in a damp garage). Some Campagnolo hardware, but I don't remember which parts are Campy and which are not. I used to ride it here in the ATL and it was a good bike for me. But my road bike days are long behind me -- time for someone else to enjoy this fine bicycle.

$85

If the campy parts were original I'm thinking it was a around a 82 PZ 10 https://www.cyclespeugeot.com/images/...PX10_PZ10D.jpg

It is a Simplex. There is a little Simplex badge riveted on the top that is slightly damaged.

Would the Cinelli 66 handlebar be period correct? I was reading an article from 1975, that says that it was the most ridden bar in the Tour. It is 26.4 which would mean I'd have to use Cinelli stem I believe?

I was going to put Mavic Racer brakes and brake levers.

Thanks again all for the help.

It's Mafac, not Mavic and Racers would have been original. They're not hard to find. You can still find them new in the box for about $65. I got my last set for free.

The aluminum version of the Simplex seatpost with the badge is extremely hard to find. I've had an offer to trade a Super Record with box for a Simplex in the for trade thread for months.

Cinelli made a stem to fit those bars in the 22mm French size. In fact, somebody here had one for sale.

Yours is the first bike I've ever seen with two sets of shifters. I suppose the DT shifters are somehow being used as stops.

Yeah, that was kind of weird.

The fork has like a clear coat over it that is flaking off. The Chrome underneath is in good condition. I'm thinking of removing this clear coat since it looks so bad.

I have removed the clearcoat from a Peugeot fork. I removed the paint, too because it needed to be repainted. The paint bubbled right off, but it took a few applications of Jasco paint stripper to completely remove the tough clearcoat. It would be difficult to remove the clearcoat with stripper without ruining the paint. Any abrasive method of removing the clearcoat will ruin the chrome. Anyone that tells you otherwise doesn't know what they're talking about. Minute scratches in chrome invite rust.

I had a similar clearcoat on a bike , chemicals won't do much. I had some luck with windex and scraping it with an old credit card

I was using my fingernail on the really flaky stuff with some success, but was thinking fingernail polish remover and a soft rag and obviously not on the painted portion.

On my '72 PX-10, I had the same yellowing clearcoat on the chrome. I stripped it right off with Aircraft Stripper, which I bought at the auto parts store. It's powerful stuff, so I made sure to mask off the rest of the bike.

What are the odds that my crappy knicked up paint is a repaint? The lugs are poorly painted. Although a previous owner could have touched up the lugs and done a shoddy job there is white on the black lugs not the other way around.

But the non-drive side downtube decal is crooked too. I even think the head tube sticker is crooked by a degree or two.

things that make you go hmm...

That's about the size of Peugeot paint of the era. The worse it is finished, the better you're assured its original.

It was probably touched up versus being repainted.

Sloppy brushwork on the lugs is typical. It's part of their charm.
