Definitely an odd frame (LeMond+Huffy?!), but definitely worth $100 in parts, if it was San Diego I'd buy it just so I could rebuild a bike I have mostly dismantled.

I posted a wacky CL ad a while back of an older low level Jamis hybrid. The bike would appear three times (at least) a day, every day. Same (over) price, same ad copy. This went on for a long time. Then one day it actually went down in price a little bit and I thought the owner was finally coming to his senses and it would steady decline until it might sell. Wrong, he started listing it like this ad with all sorts of different prices. I think he originally was asking something like $300 and in one ad he claimed it was now worth over $1,000 and he was asking $800. Then abruptly it disappeared. It was very odd.

I saw that on Ebay and wondered, to myself and now to all of you, what the heck some people are smoking/drinking/thinking, these days

You buy them for the box, toss the ripped hoods, then get a set of modern reproduction hoods, stick them in box and put them on eBay hoping some starry-eyed collector will pay 10x as much for NIB hoods...

Sometimes people consider the boxes as collectable.

And, it all might go into a vintage display.

I wonder if the hoods are used, and were just put back in the box the new replacements came in.

My Universal hoods look like that but they are also still chemically welded to the brake levers.
