We're not hatin' its just how the whole thing went down. When someone comes in asking for advice and then slaps you in the face its insulting to say the least. I'd like every seller out there to get as much as posssible for every bike they sell. In this particular instance the bike sold for more than any UO8 I've ever seen.Originally Posted by ilikebikes

I must echo Jim's comments. The seller's conduct in the Valuation forum was that of a wholly self-centered jerk. I recall that he (she?) was more concerned about proving to the world that his/her preconceived valuation was absolutely correct and above criticism, while simultaneously whining that everyone else's appraisals were bull$hit. One would have thought, from the seller's attitude, that he/she came to fish for a sale rather then listen to the valuations.Originally Posted by miamijim

The moderators ultimately removed the entire thread, I believe. Good riddance to the idiot who sold it, for all I care - Antiques Roadshow Jr. Experts, such as this seller, tick me off royally.

I've been to so many auctions where people sat like stones as the auctioneer lowered the intial price until some point at which a bidder throws up his hand. They then proceed to go right past the inital asking price.
He did start at $200. I had been keeping my eye on it. Mainly because of the education I have received from you guys...
I still love mixtes tho. Got one cheap for a girl??

I have seen things sell for alot of money on ebay and I am like who would want that. but there is a sucker born every day. each person has their own cup of tea. all it takes is for two people to really want something and the price goes sky high. and if you get 3 or 4 people then it goes very high. normaly I set a max price I am willing to bid. I wait till the last day. I watch the listing. and when it says like 4 sec left I enter my bid quickly and alot of the times I get it. I have one things by 1 cent. like the one time I bid $121.01 and the bid right under me was $121.00 I bet I pissed that guy off. he lost it by 1 cent. I always enter a few cents more. if i look at the histery and see alot of people bidding in like .05 cents each time then at the end I would bid like 20.06 just so I would be a little higher on the cents I dont want to miss something over 5 cents or so.
IIRC, the original post was removed because the poster wasn't asking what his bike was worth. He was trolling to sell it.
I've given up figuring the vintage market; a few years ago I had a very good handle on it, but it's gone a little nutty, and the values aren't consitent. 200$ is far, far more than I'd pay for a Peugeot mixte. In addition, the supply of vintage rides-- road bikes in particular-- has really dried up in the last few years.
