Looking to identify this Peugeot

Hey everyone

So today I picked up my first ever road bike (what can I say, I'm a late starter).

I live in London and needed something light and reliable to get me into work every day. I live In Crystal Palace, which has some of the nastiest hills this side of San Francisco, so my old mountain bike was just a little too much.

Friend of mine was selling this old Peugeot road bike very cheaply, so I jumped at it.

I've been reading these forums greedily over the past few weeks while dreaming of my first ever road bike, so I was hoping you could help me out by telling me exactly what I've got on my hands.

I've put a couple of pictures below but there's a whole Flickr set here:

The paper serial sticker reads P10M 50 and the serial number: 529950... and then I can't see if it's just 6 numbers or something's faded away,

So I'm guessing it's an entry-level P10, 50cm frame, and the M is.... handlebar type?

There's an 'Elite' decal on the top tube but I'm guessing this was added later and is just there to confuse me.

Any help and advice would be hugely appreciated. I would really like to try and restore this bike to a bit of its former glory if I can.

Thanks in advance

This might be enough info for the Peugeot specialists, but it would probably be helpful to add some drive-side photos of the drive train & derailleurs, as well as shifters.

At the risk of sounding like a smart ass its an 'Elite' model from the mid to late 80's. Check under the bottom bracket for a second serial number stamped into the metal. What is it? I'm going to guess its and '86 or '87 model.

P10M 50 more or less breaks down as follows:

P = Peugeot
10 = racing model Entry level in this instance. 10 series bikes have more agressive geometry and tighter wheelbases than 8 series bikes
M = specification suffix The smallest of changes in spec would change this letter
50 = frame size

The color code is 'RT' for tulip red. Some years had color codes on the label while others did not.

No, that's not smart arse at all, that's really helpful.

Thanks a lot. I'll take a look for that second serial number tomorrow.
