Titanium is really the absolute best material for making a bike frame. Stronger than steel, almost as light as aluminum, impervious to most things that kill lesser frames.

I looked long and hard for my Passoni with titanium fork, titanium seatpost, titanium one piece handlebars/stem. It is apparently from 1992. I actually took it out for a ride today.

Considered the icon of Italian bike builders. 1997 Master TI Colnago Titanio (full titanium) frame (orange/black) with the most beautiful paint job that Colnago is known for. Shimano ultegra components, Look 256 pedals, mavic rims (double butted), selle Colnago saddle, TTT bar, TTT stem, and adjustable stem (pictured -10 to +60 degrees) to help with neck degeneration. Medical issues forced me to stop riding. Used only 3 seasons sparingly-low miles. It is in exceptional condition-as new. Cost was over $3600. Today's replacement cost is about $6000. I am the original owner. It offers an amazingly plush ride due to being titanium and at the same time is extremely strong and rigid due to the frame construction. This is an opportunity to purchase a high end, high tech product at a very reasonable price.

I wonder how many of the 90's Ti frames were branded under a different name than the manufacturer. Again, there were a limited number of fabricators. For example, the Ti Basso and, I believe, the Ti Bianchi were actually Litespeed Catalysts.

And leaves out the fact that titanium is relatively difficult to mine and work, which is one of the reasons it is also relatively expensive.
Plus, you can't use lugs with it. Unless you're Pino Moroni or Cecil Behringer, who figured out how. Or Bruce Gordon, who figured out how they figured out:

I remember when that came out. We all drooled over it. Super nice bike and I can easily see it becoming a collectible because it one of the first factory titanium bikes. Rember, Ti was very hard to come by then. Very few people outside of military contractors could weld it either.

Merckx titanium
My Eddy Merckx AX ought to be a classic, but I am a little biased of course. The frame was made in the USA by Litespeed to Merckx specs and geometry.

Very, very nice. And I also use the same Vredestein tires on three bikes and not yet a flat. Plus it's fun to run them at 160 psi.

Cristiano has never picked up a torch in his life as best I can tell. It is his brother Doriano who builds the titanium frames. They are indeed special bikes too. They used steel forks (now carbon fiber).

Ugo and Mariuccia have three sons, each which works in the company. If you go to visit, chances are that Ugo will be hovering or looking after something in the work area. Mariuccia will normally be in the showroom or in the office. Cristiano looks after all the sales and marketing. Doriano looks after the titanium frames and according to many insiders has surpassed his dad. Danilo does Danilo's stuff.
