Frejus

I have a Frejus. I'm trying to find out more about it. I bought it 30 years ago and was told it was hand made from Italy. There is no serial number on the bike. I have attached some pics. If anyone can help out that would be great

I feel Don's pain. I've tried attaching pics here before with the same results. Always willing to look at a Frejus, though.

The key to posting pics is to host them somewhere online. I always use Hunt101.com because it's free. There are many others.

Hey, the Frejus's are just popping out all over.

Welcome to BF C&V, Donb

Mine has been disassembled, cleaned, and reassembly has begun. Maybe some 'after' pics by the weekend.

Yay, a Fréjus!

Are you sure there's no serial? Flip it over and look on the bottom bracket..mine was hiding under there.

I know what I did wrong. My file sizes were too big. I reduced the size of them and they are up now

It looks like a beautiful bike - you are very fortunate to own it!

Are you certain that it doesn't have a serial number?

Beautiful bike. The paint is in amazing condition. You've taken excellent care of it. I'm guessing that yours is late 70s (is the front derailleur original)? So, this would be after the merge with Legnano? Hopefully, one of the experts will chime in here.

Thanks

I moved out into the country 9 years ago and bought a mountain bike for the trails. I had the bike serviced and put it into storage in the basement. I brought it out the other week and took it for a ride. I forgot what a joy it was to ride. I had 6 people stop me and ask questions about it in the 4 hour ride. I guess they don't make them like they use to. I wish I could find out more information about it for when I pass it on to my son. Only when I die. She is getting a lot more ridding time in her now that I had a taste of her again. I searched every square inch of the bike for a serial number and can't find one. Have you seen a Frejus with the butt joints like this one? All the pics I found online had straight cut joints and the front sprocket didn't have the red paint on them. I found the rear de-railer in a history portion of Campy. That one was put into production in 1966

Incredible looking bike, Don. If you hold out just a little longer, one of the wise circle of elders here will ride in and illuminate all you'd want to know about this Frejus. I'm curious too!

serial number

I have searched it high and low for 1. Not a chance. That blew me away. I didn't think bikes were made without one. I even had 2 buddies look incase I missed it. I keep going back to it and looking thinking it may appear. The back de-railer started production in 1966. It can't be a late 1970's bike. I bought it used in 1979 and he said then it was around 15 years old then. It came with a full set of Campy tools as well. The front derailleur is original. I have yet to find a pic of one online with that detail on the frame joints or the paint on the front pedal sprocket.

Thanks for the interest and comment. It's my baby. I paid $1,200 for it back in 1979. There was no way I was letting it get dirty for that price back then. It is a joy to ride. It's smooth, quite and fast.

Well, I'd say its repainted. Frejus were pretty consistant in their graphics for decades and chrome was part of the look, and some parts are not original vintage: not that it really matters much...

The painted spider flutes on the cranks was a common 70s hot rod move done by the rider...

Here's my 60s one done in blue.

Thanks, I'm adding more pics. I have taken pics of all the spots you expect to see a serial number. It's pissing me off. Where is the serial number on your bike?

Sorry, that bike is 25 miles away in my storage.

Maybe the number was filled with paint?

[QUOTE=Donb;8940776]I have a Frejus.[QUOTE]

Actually, I'm starting to wonder if the only thing Frejus are the decals!

Lugs with cutouts, fork crown and seatstay attachment unlike any Frejus I've seen, though I admit by the late 70s they may have changed... but the long dropouts aren't late 70s...
