Rollfast Question

I picked this Rollfast Starlight up today for $50. I know almost nothing about it except that it's old and has an internal 3 speed hub. Did I get a good deal or did I waste my $50?

Look on the rear hub for the 2 digit date. Such as " 64 " = 1964. Many will feel you payed too much, but it looks to be a nice bike ,& if you like it, it fits you , it is good mechanically, $50 is not bad. Clean & polish it to make it look better.

I think it looks nice - I know nothing about American brands, but a similar bike in great condition over here would exceed $50.00.

It is a decent value for $50 in my opinion. It should be a good rider. Condition seems good without a lot of cosmetic work needed. I believe the three speed hub is a Shimano and not Sturmey-Archer, so dating the bike will be a bit tougher. I remember a good post about Shimano hub series by Kurt888, and that may be of help.EDIT: The post was actually Mos6502's, with Kurt adding valuable info. Personally, I love it. My first new bike was a 26" tire Rollfast single speed. It was for my 8th/9th ?? birthday, around 1966 or so. It was way too big for me, requiring starting and stopping at the curb.

When I gained knowlege a few years later, I bought a wreck of a Royce Union and stripped off the handbrakes and the Shimano 333 components, and converted my bike to a 3 speed much like yours.

I think you got a great bike, but hey, I'm rather biased!

That will make a great commuter. Hey, you can shift while you're stopped at a light!
