Bikes: Mostly English - predominantly Raleighs

This is what Sheldon had on his site:

Raleigh Bicycles 1925-Second War
Between 1925 and the cessation of cycle production during the Second World War, letters prefixed or suffixed the running frame number although no indication is given of the starting point of the numbers. They seem to reflect only the number of machines produced whilst each letter was in use. All dating would therefore be approximate.
1925 - A1 ..............1930 - G94785 1935 - W71147
1925 - B34181 ......1933 - L84682 1936 - W93161
1926/27 - B56536 .1934 - T93945 1937 - Y184552
1929 - E15693 ......1934 - U14540

I'm guessing that when they passed Z, they went to AA, AB, AC and then AD. Based on the progression of numbers from year to year, I'd guess yours would be from about 1940 or 1941.

I used the word "guess" twice there, so that means very close to nothing.

Or you may find a used one --someone reading this thread probably has one kicking around.

Sean, I wish you were down here - I have some Raleigh bits that might take care of that problem.

As for the flipping of the bars: PERFECT!

An update on my Little Raleigh. I used it all summer to commute to work and it was a great ride. I decided I will begin cleaning it up and making it look much more nicer once the snow leaves. it's currently all bundled up sleeping in the shed. I also desided i'm gonna ride it with the bars flippped the wrong way because they look cool that way too lol. it's got two good tires and rides like a dream. who knows what i'll come across next summer!

Are those bars non-standard?
Or are they perhaps track bars or something smilar upside down.

I'm not 100% about the bars. but when I got it they where upside down. I turned them then took a pic. bike looks lovely with them the right way but I disslike riding it to work that way so I put them back upside down. the only things it's missing are the right seat and the doctors bag. wich whenever i'm not so lazy i'll go get it. it's where I got the bike. just forgot it.

Bikes: one of each

The bars are called Lauterwassers, after a famous racer from back then. He made and sold them. YOu can google him for a little bio. Raleigh put them on the sportier bikes.

H, I know what you mean about them looking better but being uncomfortable. I have a nice steel road frame onto which I put Nitto moustache bars. they looked great, but I had to take them off in favour of a more raised up Northroad bars because of the discomfort of bending down all the time. Maybe it's my age

Yeah. I prefer it feeling better because I do alot of distance on my bikes. I already can't wait for the snow to go away. I got so many Raleigh Sports this year. bet i'll get even more next year, if i'm lucky maybe a blue or red one!

Also I like having a one of as kind bike here. I've never seen a sports as old as mine around here.
