Paramount frame - $250 - Huntington Beach, CA
https://orangecounty.craigslist.org/...601014465.html
from ad:
"PRICE IS FIRM, CASH ONLY -- serious BUYERS only!!!

PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT WITH "IS IT AVAILABLE?" -- I WILL DELETE WHEN SOLD

vintage Schwinn Paramount P-15 touring 26"/66mm road bike frame and forks. Per serial number made in 1972. Made in U.S.A. out of Reynolds 531 steel tubing. This is from the "golden era" of Paramounts with Nervex lugs, chrome highlights, and USA craftsmanship. Unusual, very hard-to-find 26"/66m extra-large men's frame.

Low price due to condition of paint (it needs to be repainted) and frozen and ruined seatpost (will likely need to be cut out by an expert mechanic; do not purchase unless you know that you can remove it).

specs:
Reynolds 531 tubing
beautiful Nervex lugs
eyelets on front and rear dropouts
frame and fork only, NO components
Used condition - chrome has some corrosion/scratches/pitting; paint should be replaced; see photos.

approximate measurements:
top tube c-to-c: 62cm
seat tube center to top: 66cm/26"
rear dropout spacing: 120mm
originally was sized for 27" touring wheels
Please ask all questions before buying. NO returns.

LOCAL PICK-UP available - item is in Huntington Beach, California.

I can send more photos but please inquiries from serious buyers only, not hobbyists wanting to swap stories/info."

I have since poured over all of the pictures the Seller sent, zooming in on every detail, trying to read every name or number, researching what I found to see what I bought - and alas, cue my wife's (and now Merziac's) wisdom, if its too good to be true - well I didn't get full Campy '72 Paramount for $500, and my but honey - I had to act fast voice before someone buys their
n-th Paramount when I only have one and we will be soooo close on our Spring Break Trip...

I take solace in the mismatch of parts that do seem to be there and further satisfaction that I could later change the build specs without feeling guilty or remorseful of changing anything to an original spec classic

the good:
  • '72 Frameset fork and Campagnolo Headest in pretty good condition - less the incorrect head badge
  • a nice Brooks Professional
  • Campagnolo front Derailleur
  • Maybe some high flange hubs, not 100% sure from the pics...
  • Its going to be a nice day in Denver later this week and I plan to ride it
The not so good, but maybe not that bad either:, watch for some of these parts to show up in the Sale section
  • Not original Nervar Star BSA Crankset wtih a 52/38 Chain Ring Set up
  • 3TTT 95MM Stem and what appear to be Matching 3TTT Handle Bars (not currently installed)
  • Some sort of "Aero 27.2 Seatpost" Not original - but will do
Money in Bikes, not in banks.

Don't get me wrong, you did just fine, especially if it fits, nothing wrong with the 3t bars and stem, they would be just fine here as long as not too modern.

Campy SP not hard to find.

Bird in the hand. ;)

Forge ahead, carry on and welcome to the club. :thumb:

It sure looks that way! maybe 2. I need to make a point of looking at pictures after I post them, they usually show larger here than in the ads, often can see details you couldn't in the ad. That said, this one seems pretty obvious?

WGB 03-20-23 11:55 AM

Isn't the crack just in the cable guide?

Either way another reason to check well before buying (which I often forget.....)

If only in the plastic guide (which is all I see) then not a biggie, these Vitus guides aren't that hard to find.

And to state the obvious: it's (another) re-badged Vitus 979, second one of these with Bertoni branding posted in this last month!

yep, but this one is steel (ignore the seller's mistake: Columbus Matrix is not aluminum)
Matrix is what became Cromor after the Trek lawyers sent their "cease and desist letter" to Columbus.

Could be, but I can't see the screw that would hold it in place....Glued or pressure/pin fit?
