Noodles don't drop so far, and you can use the upper portion (just behind where the brake hoods go) to put your hand on because it doesn't sweep downward like those.

I'm bringing this thread back to the surface because my boss just gave me a Viscount. I'm wondering-

If I replace the square NO-taper spindle with a new square taper spindle will I still be able to use the stock Viscount crankset?

Does the taper on a spindle go along with a taper inside the crank arm?

Also, have any of you guys re-built an old derailleur? The Crane RD that came on the viscount was trashed. The cage was bent up but the parallelogram appears to be fine. I'm wondering if I can get a replacement cage, or should I just harvest parts off an old RD?

Blurry Cell Phone Picture:

If what I'm told is true, Crane evolved into Dura-ace...

This is why I want to rebuild this RD

Thanks!

Blake

Here is a Shimano catalog page showing the Crane with the Dura Ace stuff.

If the spindle was not tapered, then the crankarms were not tapered. You'll need a new crankset, or figure out how to taper the square hole in the original crankset.
