Marinoni has a reputation for taking care of their bikes long after they were purchased a friend of mine had a Marinoni track frame he was restoring they painted it and even reproduced the decals for him at a very reasonable price comparable in scale to what they have quoted you

talked to Marinoni, it's $170 for a 1 colour paint job with decals. They still have the 1990 decals
Extra $90 to disassemble and re-assemble the bike. So yeah, that will be my plan B

If it weren't for the two way shipping I'd have both my 'Nonis re-done in a heartbeat.

quick spray paint hides a stolen bike...I used to ride with a guy who electrical taped his bike so his "neighbors" wouldn't steal it.

Exactly what I was thinking. I know there are lots of numbskulls in the woods, but something so nice treated so poorly smacks of foul play.

seemed legit to me, he told me he bought it from his friend for $650 last year and that it had originally cost $1850 but it was "old". He said he spraypainted because it was pink and did seem embarrassed about the job he did. also he lives in westmount (nice neighbourhood)

In a remote spot on the bike, use a little spray oven cleaner. Let it it for about 30 seconds, & see if rattle can paint will come off with rags. Wear rubber gloves. If not try again, letting it soak for about a minute. Hopefully, you will have good results.

For what it's worth, I had my Marinoni repainted last year, and it looks fantastic, but the new paint isn't too durable. For 200$ I can't really complain, but you'll have to be careful with it.
Edit: PS. I think that pink looks sweet!

Glad the gray is not too much of a pain to remove! I had a pink 'noni too at some point. It was nice but too small

IIRC, Goof-off contains xylene which is harsher than paint thinner (Varsol). If the paint thinner is removing the gray spray paint, I would just continue using that.

ok, ok, here are some recent pics
https://colinbird.ca/stripped/
i've spend maybe 6 or 7 hours on this, made a lot of progress, but it's not very fun.. I don't think there's any (easy) way to get the silver out of the detailing without damaging the pink
anyway, i scored a 56cm cromor marinoni last week which fits me even better. Fully 105 equipped, circa 1990 (https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...hreadid=588535).
Soo, i'm probably going to sell this one.

Acetone worked wonders on my bike, and it didn't hurt the orig paint ay all! but the spray paint on my bike was only one or two layers, give it a try, couldn't hurt.
