Crank ID ?

can anyone help to ID this vintage crankset?
It came off a circa 1940's track/path racer.

Havn't seen a chain ring like this anywhere on the net.

This came from s member of an aussie forum.

It is definatly a chainring that was seen very often on Hercules bicycles in the 30's-50's (before Raleigh got hold of them...). I always understood it was a pattern exclusive to Hercules like the 'Hand' for Rudge and the 'Running Man' for Humber but some one may know better. Me personally, I have only seen that pattern on Hercules Harlequin sports/racer bicycles which (I think) dated from around WWII. See the nearside bike in this advert.
