Bikes: Crap. The box is not big enough...
1991 Klein Rascal
Excuse me while I edit a little...glad I said that, I knew I wouldn't be able to get it all done while learning how. This is my last race bike, and I've devolved it a few steps in rebuilding it. It has been living at my mother-in-law's house in Scottsdale, and it was completely baked! No pun intended, it had rubber melted, cables exploded, and all of the grease and oil seems to have turned into some strange glue substance. Anyway, it is back together and functional...see the pics below.

Note those rocking NukeProof hubs. Just the ticket in 1993 or so, but still working pretty well today. Except for the stupid axle clamps with the .005 mm hex wrench (that is the tiniest exaggeration).

The full bike. I took the Control Stem and AT-2 Scott bars off in favor of the original one-piece klein bars. The bar sits up higher now...and I think that is probably good. I had it set up exclusively for climbing, at the expense of the downhill (scary descending when you're poised over the front wheel...I have the scars to prove that statement).

The fork is a '96 judy-sl. It was a pretty good fork for it's day...80mm of travel. When I took it apart, the elastomers had decayed to dust. Amazing, what can fall apart in a mortal lifespan, all by itself. I got some Wings Springs, and put it back together...pretty bouncy. I have placed an order for their full kit with an oil damper.

XTR-M900. I had forgotten that they made such a low number. After complete disassembly, relubing and replacing the cable housings, it works very well. Ah, those are Marinovative decellerators, if you are wondering about the brakes. I have Formula R1 Hydraulics on my main ride, 180 in the front, 160 in the rear, and if it is dry these brakes will outstop the discs. I was truly amazed at the power and modulation (not to mention the almost eternal setup time required). I think that the cranks are early Graftons but I can't really remember...I will wake up at 2:30 this morning and have to edit the post with the real name.
So...the question is what the heck am I gonna do with it? The gearing is too high, the geometry is a little dated...and it is 23.2 Lb. Light, but not light enough for today's race bikes. I'm toying with the idea of a different crankset to get the gearing down where it belongs, or maybe making it a single speed.
Y'all's opinion is important to me, lemme know.

Certainly one of the most awesome MTB's I've seen posted here...I'd leave it as is and ride the hell out of it!
The cranks, brakes and hubs are soooo cool!

Cool bike. I used to have a Rascal, brilliant for it's day and pretty not bad by any standard. That 1" fork limitation pretty much dooms it.
Where do you find internals for that fork?

The springs are definitely too bouncy for me.

Wings is in the business of saving old Manitous and Judys. They sell various weight replacement springs. They also have a complete damper kit, but the only place I could find it for sale was here. The springs are about $30, the complete thingie is about $100.

I got the springs, and have now ordered the full kit. So I'll have some springs that I'd make someone a deal on if they want. At least, I have ordered the kit; it isn't here yet...thinking positively, though.
