Funny thing going on - BB help needed
We are talking about my Continni, steel.
I had a 24T 68mm FAS sealed BB in but the right side cup fits at bit loose and it owrked out. Other side = OK
Tried another 24T 68mm BB by Campy and it fits better, but I wonder because it is stamped the same size as the Shimano. Howevr, doesn't really matter about the Campy I ahve because it is not splined (it is a square taper) and that is what i need.
Question is, I do not know what to order now??? I measured the bike and come up with about 1.37mm ID. I am just not sure what is 'suppose to' fit on this bike. English. Italian, what?
Should I just go with a 24T 68 and epoxy it in?

If you epoxy it in, just be prepared to throw the bike away when the BB wears out.

I assume that the drive side threading of the BB is LH thread. If that's the case then one possibility is that the frame is Swiss threading.
I quote Sheldon Brown from his Bicycle Glossary where he talks about interchangeability
"35 mm = 1.378". Shell is slightly larger, thread pitch slightly finer. May seem to fit, but will be loose."

I have just discovered that on the right side, you can thread in using a Rt. or Lt. handed threaded cup. I am beginning to think at some time a wrong cap was put in and now there is a bit of biggering. Or as stated, what I am using is a bit loose and is not fully engauging the threads.
Anybody have a Contini? What did you use?

As we say in the engineering world: Yikes!
If both LH and RH cups fit on the drive side then it might be a buggered up (or not) Italian thread. I would take the frame to a heads-up LBS and have them chase the threads with an Italian tap set and face the BB while they were at it. Then you'll know what you have and it will be right. I've had that done around here for a modest charge when I needed to put a modern BB on an old Raleigh frame.
