Is there a swap meet this weekend?

KonAaron Snake 10-02-09 01:00 PM

I believe it's the 10th...if not, I'm going on the wrong day.

Poguemahone 10-02-09 01:55 PM

10th it is.

JunkYardBike 10-02-09 02:01 PM

Anyone interested in actually swapping anything?

I've got a couple frames and a few other parts, and a small want list.

KonAaron Snake 10-02-09 02:03 PM

Junkyard - I always love to hear trade offers...

USAZorro 10-02-09 02:42 PM

If I weren't riding the Seagull, I'd be looking for a bunch of you there.

SingeDebile 10-02-09 02:53 PM

I have a specialized stumpjumper 1983 or 1984 in great shape I believe its a 21" frame... turns out its too small for me. On the odd chance you have a very nice super tall frame (68-70cm) I would trade for that, otherwise I am looking for almost anything interesting (I am partial to french stuff... but there is nothing wrong with campagnolo, I need a nice dynamo headlight too...)

also... is anyone going to have a table there? I would be happy to help you setup and split the table fee if I could sell some stuff too (though I have allot of trouble staying seated the first couple hours of the swap hehe)

jebensch 10-02-09 03:03 PM

I have a Mondia frame, c.1970, 531, 58cm. If any one is looking for a project and wants to strike something up.

Well, here's what I've got:

Columbus Tretubi steel lugged 'Fonlupt' road frame, about '94, 56 x 56 ctc
Eclipse branded TVT carbon bonded frame, about '86, 49 x 53 ctc
Japanese built Raleigh International, full Reynolds 531, frame or mostly complete build, 60 x 58 ctc
Campagnolo Record rear HF hub, VG cond
Dura Ace 6 speed freewheel, 13-21, EX cond
Dura Ace 7 speed freewheel, 13-19, EX cond
Regina Extra-BX Oro 6 speed freewheel, 13-23, EX cond
Shimano Dura Ace AX seat post, 25.0, EX cond
Bunch of Cinelli bars, some nice, some not so nice
A few Cinelli 1R stems, some better than others
Modolo Kronos carbon fiber shifter levers, braze-on, EX cond
Royal Gran Compe brake calipers, black, 39-49mm, GD cond
Suntour Superbe Pro crankset, black rings, outer heavily used, some scratches on crank arms
Suntour Superbe Pro braze-on front derailleur
Campagnolo Victory FD and RD, EX cond
Campagnolo Synchros I (6 speed) shifters, EX cond
Shimano 600 Tri-Color levers, GD cond
Suntour Sprint FD, braze-on, GD cond
Campagnolo Racing T FD, 35.0 clamp, EX cond
Tiagra 4500 FD, braze-on double, NIB
Shimano HG70 9 speed cassette, 12-23, VG cond

A couple beater wheelsets. More stuff - post up your wants and I can see if I have anything.

Wants:

Orange or yellow saddle (Rolls, Regal, Turbo preferred), EX cond
Dura Ace 7400 6 speed freewheel, 12-26 or 28T if such a thing exists
Black brake hoods to fit Dura Ace 7400 aero levers
27.2 Thomson no-setback seatpost, 330mm, black
Shimano compatible 9 speed cassette, 13-30 or close, new or barely used
new 9 speed chain
SKS P35 fenders, black
Campy 9 speed RD, long cage, Veloce or better
some nice 27" rims
front Record high flange hub
Yellow or orange or yellow/orange/red fade Look pedals, old style

Also, still working out a trade for an early 60s Raleigh GS. It's missing the original GB arrowpoint stem, pedals and wheels. I'm not sure on sizing on any of this, so maybe it's stupid to ask. Also thinking about trying a multispeed hub on the rear, but not sure.

I'm considering it, but like you, I'd have the compulsion to abandon my stuff. Although, I hear the best deals are worked out before the gates open.

I have a table. But you'd have to stay seated because I won't.

At this point:
57cm Bianchi Italian made Frame and Fork, early aughts, celeste
48cm Bianchi Campione d'Italia, complete bike, celeste
52cm Peugeot UO8, complete, converted to Cotterless cranks
56cm late 60s early 70s Frejus Frame and fork
62cm Panasonic Handmade deluxe tourer, complete bike
57cm Mangusta, full chrome frame, partial campy, unfortunate TT dent

I also have three(!) German made city bikes I'm considering bringing, and a Raleigh ladies sports in Robin egg blue, plus a small low end early seventies Gitane, and a few other things. God knows at this point exactly what I am bringing, I've got enough Campy to choke at least a small pony if not a horse, but I tend to keep the better stuff.

I think I want in on this. I have a Raleigh Olympian 68cm frameset in excellent condition that is looking for a home. And I think I will be in T-town that day.

Anyone else?

Anyone looking to split a space? I think maybe I should go as a seller this time...

JunkYardBike 10-05-09 06:11 AM

Bueller? Bueller?

USAZorro 10-05-09 06:28 AM

He's in the garage taking miles off a Masi.

A Masi is no Ferrari. It's more like one of those Pontiac Fiero kit cars.

Anyone want to swap a 58cm Schwinn Prelude frame (tretubi, gunmetal) for anything a bit smaller (54-56cm) of similar quality? I've decided that the frame for my grocery bike is a bit too big.

Well, if I end up finding someone to share a space with, I'd probably be willing to swap frames and try to sell the Prelude, if you could manage to get there early. Not really interested in it for myself. Only downside may be it doesn't have rack mounts.

I'm thinking about heading down even though It severely violates my preferred sleeping schedule....the temptation to score cool stuff is high and I've got some stuff I want to try and swap for.

my primary goal is looking for a Paramount or an International Frame and fork set.

also on my wants list are:
Normandy Luxe Competition High Flange hubs
Suntour Superbe (1st gen) RD.
Superbe brakes and levers to match.
a small front rack
Suntour clamp-on downtube shifters
vintage headlamps and taillamps

Stuff I want to try and trade off:
2 sets of "Schwinn approved" Maes drop bars
2 "Schwinn Approved" GT290 front and rear derailleur pairs.
various size quill stems
(possibly) a Ladies Schwinn World frame and fork
and possibly a GT Kustom Kruiser stretch 3 speed....its fun as hell but the thrill is sort of gone as BB King once said.

How are you getting down there JunkYardBike?

And, anybody interested in carpooling? I am in Carlisle; just west of Harrisburg.

I'll be heading up from Philly...

I've heard that the good deals all happen before it even opens and that the bike shop guys buy anything worth buying before we'll ever see it. Is it possible to beat them to the punch?

noglider 10-05-09 12:32 PM

I wish I could go! I committed to something else before I learned about this. I would definitely go to this, given the choice.

Craven Moarhead, I might be able to use some of the stuff you're trying to unload.

I'm looking for some fixie or flipflop hubs for under $45, in 32h or 36h. Also, something I'm not likely to find are some 700c rims for road riding, also in 32h or 36h, and I suppose they'd be OK if they were built-up wheels. And I need some fenders for 700c and 26" (MTB).

I've got a front Luxe you can have for free...no skewer and not sure about the condition of the cups or cones - but it's free!

Also have a generator/headlamp you can have for free.

I'll be driving. Probably leaving my place at 6:30 - 7:00 am, earlier if I end up selling stuff.

KonAaron Snake 10-05-09 01:03 PM

How does the swap aspect of this work? Do people without tables typically bring stuff with them and do deals from their trunks?

Well, I'm relatively new to the whole scene, but my guess is that at one time these really were swap meets - before ebay and the internet. It probably still goes on between sellers, but I'm not sure how often. There are some renegade sellers in the parking areas, and some people who will leave a bike chained outside or on their car rack with a cell number posted.
