Help identifying this Ciocc
This just popped up on CL. I emailed the seller only 5 minutes after it was posted saying I was interested so I might have a shot.
Any way to tell what this frame is and if it is worth the $150 he is asking? It looks like it was repainted and is a little beat up. I am dying for a high end frame but I don't want to get taken to the cleaners either.
Thoughts?

it looks pretty rough but it will make a good match for your 'split window'

If it fits you, it could be a good deal. That quick release seat post thing has to go, and don't opt for the wheelset. Ciocc used only Columbus steel. They had some framesets built with Aello. Those did not have chromed forks. The fact that the fork looks chrome and it is a smaller size, you are looking at an slx, or an sl frame. Good deal for $150 for your market

If you like that saddle (I don't) combined with wanting tubs (not either) along with a slightly better price it seems OK being optimistic. Ciocc made few if any cheap frames. What's left of the paint indicates that it most likely isn't a lesser tubing, the criss-cr. If you have no intention of riding tubeless/ sew-ups/ "tubs" and I don't say that they're not great riding but if your sure that no is the answer, the deal's weak. Seizing the opportunity for a VG at least frame along with superior ride qualities that tubs afford, this may be your chance as the wheel issue is addressed.
Not a big risk, let's face it. powder coating is a wonderfull option. The frame's well identified and engraved for the future so ...
Even selling the wheels after the fact isn't profitable, trade maybe but it's a stretch.
Get him down on the package, he'll not CL tubs so easy, dismiss that saddle, get it out of the deal, if he wants to use THAT as a price-bolsterer well........

Nice Frame bigbossman, typical of you.
4Rings6Stars, there's nothing wrong with Aelle Tubing and certainly would NOT affect my decission either way on a frame given a reasonable price point. An eight hundred dollar complete, near perfect shape bike... maybe and then, only if I had a choice.

He responded that he is looking for somebody to take the whole lot, but since I was the first response if he decides to just sell the frame I'm first in line (whatever that is worth).
I just grabbed a Raleigh Super Course frame off ebay so I'm not dying for a new frame, but I wouldn't want to pass up a good deal because I'm compulsive...but that's another thread right?
bigbossman, seeing yours inspires me, but I know that this one is far from that condition.
I'm going to offer him $200 for the lot and see what he says.

How does a nice frame get that beat up? Kind of makes me sad

well, maybe I did see one with that paint before, but short-term memory loss is my constant companion...so an Aelle frame but with chrome fork and rear ?...I'd still buy it but for less than $150 given the rough condition and the tubing, and it's still bound to be a fine ride.

At any rate, the chrome fork alone is worth $50-$75 on eBay, assuming it is in decent shape.

does that fork crown have just the club, ala Colnago? That would be another strange detail, since all the panto'd Ciocc forkcrowns I ever saw had the 4 suits as in the head tube decal, and it's got a slotted BB shell rather than the 4-lobed shape cut out...I'm going to guess that this is another one that was contract-built after Giovanni sold the name...maybe by Billato, maybe somebody else.

I have since found an original Ciocc fork in the proper size, but I never installed it. The Colnago fork is in better shape, and has the exact same bend profile when compared side to side with the Ciocc one. And before anyone asks - NO, the Ciocc fork is not for sale.Good catch.

Hey guys - so the seller got back to me and says the frame/fork/headset is mine for $150.
I don't really have the money or time (college student) for a full repaint and Campy resto - so should I skip?
I certainly don't need the frame, but like I said earlier if this is a great deal on a great bike I'll jump on it, but will stay away if it is marginal.
Will I ever see a frame of this quality for this price again?
Thoughts?
Update: I told the seller I was no longer interested. I don't have the time or money to do this frame justice and to build up my new Raleigh the way I want it.

I think you made the right decision. I don't think this frame, in the condition it is in, is worth $150. By the time you get it repainted and apply decals, you'll have close to $500 into it. You will be able to find a nicer frame for less than that. Keep looking!

Looks like somebody else bought it and put it on the bay. Curious to see how the auction goes.

IF the fork was in good shape, I'd go as high as $50, then tell him to just ship the fork. That frame is B E A T. Plus, - "seatpost - 26.8mm". Aelle tubing for sure. Not worth the price of a good respray.

Did he emphasize how awesome that frame is enough?
