Show your Serotta!

So I just recently learned that Serotta is out of Saratoga Springs, NY. Seeing as how Upstate is near'n'dear to me heart (Ithaca, really), I'd like to start obsessing on finding a good old Serotta and of course love some visuals to inspire the notion.

Bikes: Upright and Recumbent....too many to list, mostly Vintage.

I too discovered those exact same facts earlier this week. Have you looked at their site and seen the Steel and Carbon road bike with the straight top tube they have in the lineup? Its a beaut.

T-Max. Sadly no longer mine. Were unhappy with the build/specs and decided changes had to be made. Lost inspiration and gave a new happy owner the oppertunity to have a try. Last time I saw it I had to agree he succeeded.

I still own a Serotta. Model Fat Chance Yo Eddy!

Yeah same feelings here, but it has instilled a bit of a jones in me to see what one rides like. I'm really hot for those curved seatstays.

Huh, I didn't know that Serotta was out of NY, I just figured they were from Colorado cuz of the Coors sponserships and the names of their bikes.

What is the history of the company? They started out in Ti bikes, right? Or did Litespeed build their Ti bikes?

Serotta started originally as a bike shop in Saratoga N.Y. back in the early 70's (maybe earlier).
Ben Serotta went to the UK and apprenticied with Holdsworth (I think), might have been Woodrup.
Came back to the US and started building/marketing frames in the early mid 70's.
Serotta made his name with Steel frames the Ti stuff came a bit later.

It's a 1985 Campagnolo 50th pantographed Club Special. It's extremely rare, so far I can only find evidence of three existing and the only frame I know of that sports the Campagnolo 50th emblems engraved driectly to it (on fork crown and stay caps).

Profile bears a spooky resemblance to an early 70s (Italian or San Clemente) Masi. The fork bend is exquisite.

bobcat, never had the pleasure to ride a Masi, but have seen a few in person. Next time I get a chance to do so I'll have to line the Masi up next to this one and see how close they are. I will say that the Serotta is a great ride. It's not quite as race oriented as my Gazelle AB-Frame, but does carve a solid liine and will get up and go when my legs give the order.

Nope. C. Haugk is an actor of the TV variety, or so I'm told.

Cuda's Red Nova really is gorgeous and thanks for the compliment on my bike. Alot of these older Serottas are the early handiwork of David Kirk and Kelly Bedford I believe, though plenty of them were fired by Ben I'm sure.

No, it was repainted by Southwest Frameworks here in Dallas in 2007. Color is from Lexus, originally on the GS series, it's called Matador Red Mica.

dannyg1, when I first saw your bike I thought "classy" and "understated, but not boring somehow..."

Then I went "why am I still staring at this thing? It's just a nice gray bike with tubulars, a nicely worn seat and...50th anniversary Campy engraving! Pantographed components! Someone's name (yours? framebuilders?) in the seat stay bridge!"

Oh baby, what a bike!

Frame was made in 1988 but I don't know the name of the rider. It's presently in pieces and in the process of getting back on the road.
