1" Threaded headset suggestion

So I need a 1" headset(english thread, stack height under 40mm), preferably sealed. Right now I am looking at a Stronglight Delta or a Stronglight JDX. My budget is around 50$ or so.

So any suggestions???

Or does anyone have one they would wish to sell me?

Oh, I'm also in need of a 26.4mm seatpost, if anyone has one they would like to get rid of.

Check out the new style Stronglight A9 with sealed cartridge bearings.
I got them for below 50 bucks from a seller at eBay in UK. It doesn't have the old needle bearings that the A9 was famous for but it seems to be nice and smooth and stable so far on my bike, and it has a 38mm stack height.
You also can't go wrong if you do decide to go with the Delta though, I haven't used it, but I heard a lot of favorable comments about them, and they do have the needle bearings, although they are not sealed cartirdges and depend only on O-rings around the cups and races that can eventually perish.

Bikes: Waterford 953 RS-22, several Paramounts

Ben's Cycle in Milwaukee has N.O.S. Stronglight A9 headsets with the needle bearings for $49.99. I bought one recently. Unfortunately, they're only available in black.

I've also got one of the new sealed bearing A9 headsets installed on another frame, and it's nice too.

Bikes: A few BSO's.

I have one of these. It works for me except I wish it didn't have the black band on it. I paid $50 at the LBS. Shimano HP-5500 105 Headset 1" Threaded Silver

Tange Levin is about 33mm stack height, and a good solid performer for not much money.

I was really expecting to get the needle bearing type A9 when I got my headset, but was surprised when it turned out to be the new version with the sealed bearing cartridges (my bad, didn't read through the auction details enough). A bit dissapointed at first and skeptical about going from the familiar to me already, needle bearing setup, but was convinced to install it on my bike anyway when I felt how fantastically smooth and stable the bearing action was when I did a "dry run" partial installation of the new cartridge bearing A9. Anyway, I think the sealed nature of the bearings and very silky smooth action on the new A9s more than makes up for the loss of the needle bearing feature......which by the way, I will still not hesitate to put on any bike if I had the chance.
BTW, if those A9s just didn't have the Paramount logo on it, I would be buying many of those you see at eBay to stock up for future bikes and spares. Too bad I'm not really looking for Paramounts...............yet(?)!

BikePro Has the needle bearing stronglight headsets at either silver or black for $35; they also carry the Shimano 600 Ultegra (6500) for $43. The later is a better headset and the price cannot be beat.

I'll second the Tange. It works pretty well, has a timeless look, and are ~$20 online. I have a good LBS that sells them for even less...

I figured something was up with bikepro.com. For one the only phone number on there leads to a private line and the person that picks up has never heard of bikepro.com. Thats to bad, there was alot of stuff on that site that I wished to purchase.

Anyway, I will probably go with the A9 with cartridge bearings.

But does anyone know about the stronglight JDX??? It only seems to exist on this site ~~~~~> https://www.giroposte.com/START.html

It existed on eBay for a while. It looks like the special tool comes with it.

I saw that auction at the time I was settling on a campy record.

Now I'm confused. You settled on a Campy Record in November?

When I started to build this bike I started by bookmarking parts I found on websites. Well the parts I wanted to be new at least.

I as I read more on headsets I decided that I did not want the record. Also I felt slightly bad about the campy headset. I just know every time I look at it while riding I would want the rest of the bike to be campy.

I can't argue with that kind of logic.

If you can live with a 42 mm stack height, the Grand Boise headsets sold by www.velo-orange.com are an excellent value. Sealed bearings, quality construction, nice looking.

I think Velo Orange is one of my favorite sites.

Yeah, my original post was for the VO grand cru headset until I saw the 42mm stack height. I have an alloy tange passage that I like too, I think it was 12-20 dollars and seems like a good product.

I think the VO headset was the first one I considered.
