Mtb id??
I recently bought this MTB at a pawn shop. Obivously, it's been spray painted. There are no badges or labels to indicate the manufacturer. Here are the highlights.
Steel frame - 18 speed
Suntour a3000 RD
Suntour ?? FD
175mm Sugino VP crank with 52-38-28 rings. The 52 is round, but the 38 and 28 are ovoid. The 38 is stamped Suntour cycloid
Shimano cantilevers - Exage trail I believe.
Joytech hubs with ARAYA rims
Shimano thumb shifters - the rear can be switched from friction to index. Someone moved the rear shifter to the left and vice versa.
I don't think this is anything great or special, but it has an interesting mix of parts. It may be something that someone just cobbled together out of the parts bin.
The gusset plate at the bottom of the head tube is stamped with some chevron looking imprints. Anyone have any idea what this is? Is there anything special here?

Headtube gusset should be a giveaway for some 80s MTB expert. Is there something stamped in the gusset? Are they words or just two horizontal lines stamped in there.

I agree with brian, that gussett on the DT says DiamondBack or maybe Haro? judging from the wheelbase and the components it is a late '80s very early '90s
how do you stow that tall kickstand?

OH them I am leaming towards Haro. that gussett is/was a BMXish kind of thing and they also used it more as a trademark/logo thjat any real purpose

I think I looked at that same bike at the pawn shop on the business loop. I kind of wish I'd bought it. Good for you!

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it however. I'm 6'-1" so the frame will fit me, but I have another old similar MTB in the garage awaiting it's fate as well. It was a $10 thrift store pick up.

Misery LOL I years ago I worked with a girl from somewere in Mo. when asked where she was from she just said misery, but they way she said it made it sound weird. her name was Doris but she aqired the nickname (behind her back) of Borris because she was so boring and drab LOL

He had it listed at $40 or $50 the last time I looked at it, and wasn't willing to budge.( summer time). I really liked the two sets ow water bottle braze ons on the down tube. Great score at that price.
