Would you kindly refrain from divvying up the bike on his behalf?

He hasn't even decided whether he will purchase it or not, and if he does, he might wish to keep the components for himself. Don't be a gimmie pig.

AL will crack when steel will bend. And it is an ALAN, but re-badged as Fanini (another one I didn't know about, add it to the growing list of re-badges for ALAN)
Question: did they cut threads in either of those headtube joints? Or were those joints just glued? I'm guessing that threads could also weaken the lugs just a bit.
Another possibility is that the head tube was underbuilt (likely if this was a common occourance) or some manufacturing or materials defect. I briefly had a Specialized Allez Elite ('05 I think) and a significant number of those frames that came through my LBS cracked the same way under normal recreational use. They were all replaced as Specialized realized it was a manufacturing defect.

That's a laughable response.
If he wants to keep the parts for himself he will (and if he was interested in the parts he wouldn't be here asking about welding the bike back together!). So far, it looks unanimous that this "deal" is only worth as much as the parts he can use/sell. Letting him know that I'm interested doesn't make me a "gimme pig" (whatever that means).

If he previously said that he's willing to part with the components, yes; but he hasn't. He doesn't even have the bike yet.

Telling him that you want something off of it without first inquiring whether he is actively selling parts from it is rude, in my opinion. It's similar to how the fellows on the Schwinn forum believe they are entitled to make an offer on your bike if you post a photo of it. Would you like it if someone barged into your Olmo thread and demanded how much you intend to sell the headset and seatpost for? I don't think so.

Case in point, I've been offended - more then once - when people have inquired as to the price I'm asking for my two chrome Paramounts (usually at C&V shows) absolutely out of the blue. To add insult to injury, many often act indignant when I tell them the Paramounts aren't for sale, as if I'm somehow obligated to sell to them because they wish to buy.

If you actually read my Olmo thread then you would have seen that members did, in fact, mention that if I were ever inclined to sell my frame and Mafac brakes then they'd be interested.

I wasn't offended at all. I certainly don't understand how someone can "barge" into a public forum simply by posting a comment in a thread!

If you're that concerned with etiquette, I find your response to me far more rude than anything I've posted in this thread. Calling me names and comparing my post with indignant people arguing with you face-to-face over your bikes at a show when you aren't interested in selling them is over the top, in my opinion.

You evidently weren't offended at unworthy's post, so it seems like you're simply picking nits when you jump on my post confirming what he already wrote.

I'm amazed you drug the point out even further! Perhaps you're sore about something else, or maybe you wanted the forks yourself. In any case, if this is bothering you so much that you must persist in commenting, please do so via PM because dragging the thread off track over this has got to be more rude than had I suggested he simply give me the parts.

I dunno. I can't envision a crash scenario where the bottom lug would fail that way (maybe straight down?). It still could be that the head tube was reamed for a JIS headset originally (29.8 or so) and the campy bottom race would be 30.2. Or it could be a lousy reaming job.

Mash that sucka in there and hit a bump...ta da!
