For anybody interested, I just posted my dad's c. 1985 58 cm Expedition in Classifieds. He's getting on in years (87 come Saturday) and figured to stop riding his multi-speed bike. (Just broke his hip, too, so the doc says he can't ride his single-speed for awhile, either.)

Oh, come on. Done right (no hacking off of braze-ons, etc), it'd make a pretty bad-ass urban fixed gear. Switch back to gears whenever you're ready to take it out on tour.
Seriously! I spent all last season looking for a deal like this, finally worked up the pluck and just paid $400 for a decent vintage tourer.
I enjoy haggling and I love barter...when I see a great deal, I shut up and take it without saying a word. There is no need to barter when you're getting a great deal, and you got a great deal. Be happy that you got a touring bike many would kill for at a price most would double and still be glad to pay.
