Hi,

I am new to road cycling and have been mountain biking for several years and today I stumbled across a bike at a neighbors garage sale. Its a Nishiki Modulus, I can find some info on this model but any more would be great. But the thing is that on this bike, the Modulus name is going down the seat tube, while the other I have seen have it on the top tube. My bike also says SRT on the top tube and I cant find anything about it, so if anyone could help me out with some information that would be great.

Modulus was a pretty good Nishiki model. Typically a mid-level or better Nishiki. I'd need pics to help narrow down the age, but I'm betting the tubing is double butted chromoly steel, probably Tange, but I'm not sure what grade Tange. In 1988 the Modulus had a very cool tri-color blue/white/purple that faded into the next color. IMHO, that bike has a really nice frame. If it's a good fit, you should plan on keeping it a LONG time.
I have a 1986 Nishiki Prestige that I've upgraded with brifters and deep V wheels. It would cost over $1000 to buy a similiar bike new today.

Here are the components on the bike, from what I have been reading. The shimano exage components are from 1999.

Shimano Exage 300ex derailers, shimano shifters sl-a400, Sakae custom modolo patent bars, Rpm Power pro crank, and the sticker on the frame says its a "Cro-mo main tube"

Are the components from 1989? Not sure when Exage first came out, but I'm fairly certain they were phased out by the early to mid 90s. I had found a website that listed some of the shimano 300ex components, it showed they were used as "Shimano Road '99 ", I dont know if that's if they used them that year or when they were manufactured. It also showed some of these from 1990 with a number or two added to the end of the numbers on mine. So I am a bit confused with this.

Just look up the date codes on the back of those Shimano components, and you will know exactly when they were made. Visit the vintage Trek site for detailed component code information.
