Fortunately celluloid fenders never feel any pain, and celluloid fenders never really die.

Very nice. Does anyone make white plastic fenders any more? Of course there is always paint.

I did ride there once...saw a bunch of stars...some I recognized, but some I'd hardly even heard of. Overall I prefer relaxing in the village green.

That goes without saying! With this weather, though, I could go for a holiday in the Waikiki right about now.

That sounds magical! You could be lazing on a sunny afternoon, as if it were summertime.

SKS Longboards come in "beige," which is kinda like dirty white.

That's right. I'm not sure if Bluemels changed from celluloid to plastic for safety or cost reasons, nor when the change occurred. They were certainly still using celluloid in the 1940s.

And as I recall, in the movie The Great Escape, the POWs used celluloid ping pong balls from Red Cross parcels to start a fire provided a diversion so they could steal some critical item from the Germans.

Most things that used to be celluloid changed over in the 50s and 60s to more modern polymers. I remember selling Bluemels in the 80s and I'm pretty sure they were not celluloid anymore. If I had to guess I'd say they were ABS.

FWIW at that time Esge fenders with the laminated construction were much better functionally. Nowadays SKS Bluemels style fenders are made with the construction method of Esge, and look (more or less) like Bluemels. Best of both worlds. All that's missing is the cool colors and the gold Bluemels script logo.

OT but ping pong balls are still celluloid AFAIK.
