Croce d aune group
well, i guess this should be in the value thread but it seems on one looks at that. anyway, i have an older adr - slx - bottecchia, you know, the gross looking purple with neon yellow. well, i kind of like it but i've been buying alot of bikes lately and this one may have to leave the stable. my friend rode it the other day and fell in love with it and wants to buy it. now as far as what i should ask? like to give him a fair deal but not too cheap. the main thing is....what is the value of the croce d aune group? now i figure it to be worth around 4-5 hundred. i think he figures it around three hundred. the groupo is in really nice shape with the delta brakes and the levers very very nice shape. he wants the bike for around 5 hundred but to my way of thinking, thats the value of just the group. would a fair price be , say, 7-800.00 like i was thinking or am i dreaming? not much infor. on prices of croce d aune group sets. he is quite a bike expert and says that the croce d aune was not a good group as far a functionality and thats why it didnt last long. he may be right, but they are kind of rare i believe. any help appricated as always!!!

The Croce d'Aune group was a very good group, between Chorus and C-Record. It has a lot of similarities to C-Record and there is some parts interchangeability between them. It was sort of marketed as the poor man's C-Record and was a perfectly fine alternative to it. The reason it didn't last so long was probably that the market niche wasn't big enough, although that is just speculation on my part.
I'm not really up on prices for this group, but I do know if you are seeking to max your value out, ebay off the parts. I guarantee you will sell every last little clip and connector in the group. I did something like a couple of years ago when I bent the frame on my CdA Tommaso. The things that people really want out of that group are the pedals and brakes - they were both sorta unique. The CdA deltas were a lot different than the C-Record deltas and although desirable, they don't quite bring the prices that the C-Record versions due. If your pedals are in good shape, call me
.
Anyhow, if you are trying to baseline the prices, I'd say figure out what the C-Record parts would bring, knock off 10-20% to be conservative, and that's your number. Again, for some of the parts it takes a pretty trained eye to distinguish them and if I'm correct, sometimes CdA had parts from previous years C-Record.
Its nice stuff, I'd like to have a full CdA group, it would be just like old times. For a while, they had an unusual rear derailleur with an actuating rod, which is the variant I had.

Bikes: Two wheeled ones
I think 700-800 is a generous offer on your part, but it might depend on local markets.
Let's really break down costs here -
The wheel set has to be worth at least $150 if it has campy hubs, and that's conservative
What kind of saddle is on it? If it's anything remotely decent it's probably worth at least $50...so we're already at $200
Let's use his number, just for kicks...300 for the gruppo - that's $500
bars and stem...another $50 I'm sure
Even with his numbers...and I disagree with them (your's are much more accurate)...at $700 he's getting an SLX frame at $150.

I agree that $700-800 is a very fair price for the complete bike.
