88 Colnago... what the!?

Can someone explain the, er, shifter-thing there?

Also, I had no idea that anyone had thought of those hideous straight-blade forks before 1999. So depressing.

That's the eject button - with that gearing you have to bail fast! As you can see the last rider left in such a hurry he left his shoes clipped in.

That's the shifter boot from my dad's Triumph TR-3a.

...or from my 850 Spyder.

Oh, nevermind!

And what the heck is wrong with a straight Colnago fork?

Oh, nevermind.

We've been down that tired road at least a half dozen times around here.

Bikes: '74 Raleigh LTD-3, '76 Motobecane Grand Jubile, '83 Fuji TSIII (customized commuter), '10 Mercier Kilo WT (fixed obsession), '83 Bianchi Alloro, '92 Bridgestone MB-1 (project), '83 Specialized Expedition (project), '79 Peugeot UO-8 (sold)

Looks like an internally-geared crankset concept, basically the complete opposite of an internally-geared rear hub.

Thank God it didn't take off. Looks tacky.

Also, WTH is up with those boxy hoods?

That's the usual goofy stuff that happens when you have a car designer try to design something with two wheels.
Pninfarina, famous car design studio was also commisioned in the 90's to design the bodywork for the Morbidelli V8 motorcycle and made a mess of it that it practically killed the project before it could hit even the market. The bike was sooooo stupidly ugly that there was a snicker and laugh heard worldwide when the prototype photos were released to the press.
