That's the eject button - with that gearing you have to bail fast! As you can see the last rider left in such a hurry he left his shoes clipped in.

That thing is plastic fantastic tacky looking, nevermind the car shifter, whats with the crank, and brake lever shape, why is there a piece of plastic over the stem, is that supposed to be a fairing of some sort?

Looks like an internally-geared crankset concept, basically the complete opposite of an internally-geared rear hub.
Thank God it didn't take off. Looks tacky.

That's the usual goofy stuff that happens when you have a car designer try to design something with two wheels.
Pninfarina, famous car design studio was also commisioned in the 90's to design the bodywork for the Morbidelli V8 motorcycle and made a mess of it that it practically killed the project before it could hit even the market. The bike was sooooo stupidly ugly that there was a snicker and laugh heard worldwide when the prototype photos were released to the press.
