And your question is?

If it says Performance on it then I guess that's what it is. "OK" frames from all the stuff they sold for years.
Just be sure you are not paying the same price the guy bought it for in the 80s.

Not sure about the road bikes but I bought a early 90's (I think) aluminum Performance mountain bike last summer for my son and it's turned out to be a pretty nice ride. Paid $40 for it.

Any bike can become a "performance" bike as long as you put a "performance" rider on it.
Heck, I bet Lance Armstrong can beat me in sprint, me riding my Vitus Carbone and he a plastic big wheeler (performance) toy!

Seriously though, I think the seller is just putting on the "layman's" sales enhancement to his description of the bike. It's really up to the buyer to confirm what it's really all about before chomping on the hook at the end of the line.

I've got a Performance branded MTB. It's a rebranded generic Taiwan made early 00's aluminum. Not a bad bike for the price.

I got the idea the brand is performance..... I had heard of such a brand before.
My question was whether anyone knew if they made decent road bikes and if anyone knew what type of tubing/components could be expected.

I have a message out to the seller asking for more details.

More than likely it's a bike that was sold by Performance Bike. Hard to say who they contracted with to build their frames. Nashbar does the same thing.

+1 Store branded bike, a variety of build specs. Very little resale, but can be a bargain if you are looking for a rider.

Like has been said, Performance sold bikes under the Performance brand. They were mostly mid-level bikes depending on which components. As far as I remember, they were good bikes for the money. How much are they asking?

Its $150 and can see that it's got brifters. Looks clean from the photo.
If "longbeachgary" means you are in longbeach CA then you might have a look at it in the OC craigslist. Its in Newport.

Pretty much any bike with branded brifters in good servicable condition is worth over $150, even if it is a Huffy. A Performance bike is a lot better than a Huffy. Won't last long on C/L.

I remember that in the late 80's performance was selling bonded aluminum bikes, similar to vitus. One of those might actually make an interesting restoration project.

Looks good. If the shifters work, $200 is not a bad price. If they don't, it could be a costly project.

I have had two very nice Performance bikes one was a road bike that was hit by a car and then ran completely over, it had Shimano barcons, a 600 brake set, Araya VX400 rims with Shimano Exage 32 hole sealed hubs with a HG 7 speed cassette and stainless spokes. I forget what derailleurs it had as they were trashed along with the crankset. It was pretty lite weight from what I remember.
The other I had was sorta like a hybrid except it had 26" wheels and it to was very lite and to this day I wish I never got rid of it. It had full Shimano STX setup with Araya wheels.I have one pic of it just before I sold for $250 after I built it up for a customer, I sold it for $175 originally the rest was for extra stuff he wanted done and installed. I still have the like new fold up Performance tires that were on it originally. I liked it better before he had me put all the goofy extras on like that stem and fenders.
