198? Pinarello Veneto

I just got back from a sweet score from CL for what I believe to have been an excellent deal ($200). It is a Pinarello Veneto, which I believe was near the bottom of the Pin line up, but at the same time a quality bike. The tubing is Columbus Aelle Tretubi with a full indexed Shimano 105 (105x) group, other than the brake levers which I believe have been swapped out. Then again, I haven't seen a set of those levers before. The rims are Fir EL 19 with a 6 speed Cassette. I particularly like the pantographed 3T stem. There was some pretty bad pitting on the chrome and spokes that I got looking a bit better with the old aluminum and lemon juice trick, and there is still some more rust on the frame and headset that I need to take care of. Something also seems to gotten on the cranks as the finish is strangely damaged. If anyone could date this bike for me that would be great (serial #:ZZ 443, catalog would work too) Anyways, without further ado... here are the pics:

Thanks BB. It definitely needs a bit of work but I think it was a good investment. I may upgrade to an 8 speed Shimano 600 drivetrain but I haven't decided yet. I also really need to replace the seat and seatpost which appear to have come off a low end Miyata, as well as the "temporary" , as described by the seller, binder bolt.

edit: haha thanks Jet. Glad you didn't jump on it haha I thought I was late to the punch but was called back a bit later.

After some further research I have narrowed this down, I believe, to a 1987 or 1988 model based on a few things. The first would be some of the 105 components were only available for these years, the second is a "campione olympico et campione d'italia 1984" decal on the top of the down tube. These are referring to Pinarello's 1984 Olympic gold and Giro d'Italia vicorties which were, correct me if i'm wrong, their last major victories until until 1989. If anyone can find the catalogs from 87-88 that would be great. I am having no luck so far.

https://bulgier.net/pics/bike/Catalogs/ has a few catalogs from the 80's, but nothing that resembles your bike. I would guess from the paint job early 90's, but you are right, there should have been some decals advertising the Tour de France 1988 victory.

Thanks longbeach and cardiac. When I first saw the bike I also thought early 90's but I am almost certain it must have been 87 or 88. I just can't seem to find a catalog with something similar. Cheers for the link!

You should be able to get the code off the Shimano parts and get the date of manufacture from www.vintage-trek.com.

Thread is a little dated, but I believe this is 87 or 88. I had this bike (still think my brother has it) and bought it new in 87. My paint job though was yellow with a pearl finish. A buddy of mine had the paint job that you do, but had Shimano 600 groupo on it.
