That PX10 is in my size...I'd be interested because I have no French bikes left. I'd also replace the plastic with Campy NR.

Bikes: Was Fuji and got my grails (Pro, Pro SR, Design Series, & Ti). Now I hunt 50's/60's road bikes.
I'd be all over the Le Champion. I missed out on one that was about 5 miles from me a few months back. I think the seller wanted something like $100-200.

To be honest, I'm in the throes of deciding how to sell it...put it back to (close to) stock, sell the bike local, and eBay off the upgrade parts or sell it as it is. I shudder to think how much is in that bike and how much C&V fun I could have with those funds!

Put the Campy stuff on the PX-10 and then part out the Motorbacon frame and the Simplex parts.

Le champ is more unique, and has a nice saddle. Its a pretty bike. It'd probably keep it. The PX-10 is tempting, and with the right rebuild and a better saddle, it could compete, but it has huge rep and is more widely desired while being a bit less new/interesting to look at and ride. Probably get a nicer price on the PX-10, especially if you find a Brooks for it.

Yeah, I didn't realize what the vintage Ideale saddles went for on eBay. Ouch! I guess if I were going to restore the PX-10, I'd just put a B17 on it even though not original. I'm not a total snob when it comes to original parts, especially when it has Simplex stuff.

I'd recommend cloth bar wrap, coated with clear shellac, as it gives the most vintage look, which is what you're going for with a bike like that.

You need to move to a condo with a nice, secure, underused bike room. There's a Peugeot in our room that hasn't moved in 8 years and is not locked. I think I've narrowed it down to the ex-resident who moved out 5 years ago, as the frame is too tall to accomodate anyone else. The other benefit of a nice, secure bike room is that nobody knows that about 50% of the bikes stored there belong to just two owners. Me and my downstairs neighbor who also has tight lips;-)

Completely disassemble the PX-!0 and sell in pieces - The seat post is worth $48.00 and the Stem is worth $32.00 - The frame will go for at least $75.00 and so on and so on... GOOD LUCK...

The PX-10 is more comparable to a Motobecane Grand Record (except with Simplex vs. the GR's Campagnolo Nuovo Record... both frames are full 531 and use Nervex Lugs)
The Grand Record is the model below the Le Champion. The Le Champion and the Champion Team are bikes that feel and look beyond what comes from Motobecane's standard line-up.
Go for the Le Champion... much rarer and a better quality bike all around.

And no, PX-10s were not "good enough for Merckx." He rode them for a year or two because his contract demanded it. Later, in the 1969 Tour, he attacked Roger Pingeon, a TdF winner (1967, I believe) and Peugeot team leader on a descent, saying afterwards that he went in part because he remembered how the Pugs had descended. It was not meant as a compliment. I can assure that those bikes Eddy rode in his Faema, Faemino and Molteni years were not repainted and rebadged PX-10's.
On the bright side, Simplex plastic RDs make good, lightweight door stops and paperweights. Much easier to move to where needed than the much heavier Huret stuff.
